I decided to take Bonnie to the Vet to get another hormone implant. Her last one actually helped tone down her hormonal behaviour and aggression to my husband, so today she went for a visit (I also took our cocaktiel, for a double appointment...long story). This time I asked for the 12-month implant - which, for quakers, will last about 8 months (they are the same implants used for dogs, but don't last as long for parrots). Bonnie was a good girl! She didn't even do the quaker alarm call when people with dogs came and went while we were in the waiting room. They did the implant during the consultation for the cockatiel, so I didn't need to go then come back again. She had a bloody patch on her chest feathers - they inject the implant into the chest muscle - and plucked out all the feathers around the wound before we even got home. Here's hoping she won't now become a feather-plucker (I told her I would NOT be impressed if she does that!). She seems fine, just a bit subdued. Now to pay the $330 off the Credit Card...

Interesting... So you think those implants are really worth it. I am thinking the same thing for Oscar. I have to go to the Dr. where Oscars' vet is in February... so I just might have that done at the same time. I will ask for the 12 month implant. I really hope this calms him down from his house building. He is just a fanatic about it... just too much.
Poor Bonnie with blood... that makes me quiver.
