I posted here about a month ago about my quaker being sick and picky about his food. After two weeks of meds he started eating his seed mix and gained weight 75g-> 125g. Everything was going so well and then one day he just stopped eating. I took him to the vet again and had his blood tested, and turns out he has jaundice and his liver is sick.. Liver indicators were 5 times above normal. The vet said he could have eaten something toxic or the metal particles in his stomach ( muffin previously bit metal cage bars) could be the reason. He said it takes a long time to treat sick liver and told me to feed Muffin baby formula along with his fav food like eggs and bread. He ate both at first, and then stopped. He now rejects his fav food and only eats baby formula. His weight dropped to 104g so far. I had to increase the amount of foruma and now feed him 4 times a day 8cc per feeding+liver meds. His droppings became lighter in color, but look normal in terms of shape and consistence. I’m worried about how long I can keep feeding him nothing but formula. I heard formula is bad for adult quaker’s digestive system, but I don’t know what else I can do to help him gain weight. I took a week of vacation to care for my little guy, and I’m also worried once I have go to work again, I will only be able to feed him in the morning and in the evening and he will loose more weight. I would appreaciate any advice how I can help Muffin gain weight and get better. If your bird got sick and you had to give him/her formula how long had you been giving it to him/her? Any people here who had experience with sick liver?

I'm sorry he's still ailing! My Peppy had liver problems, and eventually died from them. When they get ill like this, the most important thing is to keep them eating, and if he'll only eat one thing, so be it. I wouldn't worry about him just eating formula. It may not be the absolute best thing for an adult bird, but it's better than most. And probably quite a bit better for him than his seed mix. I would ask his vet what you might be able to pulverize or liquefy and add to the formula if you want to experiment. Good luck!

Have you tried feeding him warm noodles... like spaghetti or macaroni? I know my Quaker loves them. Warm food may entice your Quaker to eat?? Can't hurt to try. Some Quakers also like warm cereal. Another good one to try.

I used to make my own baby food for my kids when they were babies using formula as a base. Cooked salmon, sweet or white potatoes, bananna, mango, chopped spinach, ground flax seed, wheat berries..just to name a few ,are all good protien or potassium rich sources with vitamins and minerals too..they blend in good too. Pastas in whole wheat or spinach would be good choices as well. Ya can make a batch and keep it in the fridge and warm a bit as needed..my guy likes warm food too. Here's to hoping the new year brings your little one better health !

Sorry to hear about your sickie little guy. I have a couple of suggestions that might help..
I saw that someone suggested soft noodles, which is a good idea. You need to understand that soft warm food reminds him of those warm delicious meals that his mommy used to regurgitate for him ( Yum Yum ! ) , so you might try just about any soft warm food. Warm cooked oatmeal, noodles , macaroni, grits, mashed potatoesor mashed veggies all mat be appealing. You also might try warm (not Hot ) soup! My quaker loves vegetable soup chicken noodle soup, split pea soup , and ( Most favorite ) clam chowder !! Another favorite is Italian spaghetti with sauce . After all, tomatoes will not hurt him, and even meat supplies good protein . Just don't feed him large amounts of meat, since an excess of protein can make him overly aggressive.
Also, have you thought to eat with him? Eating is a social event with most birds, and if you are seen to be eating ( "Oh My this pasta is SOOO Good !! Yum Yum " is likely to get his attention ) He just might join in. And if you happen to leave some food on your plate , and then turn away to look at some Fascinating object elsewhere on the table, your little guy might just help himself to your food. After all, all birds know that Your food is the best food !! It just might be a chance to get him interested in something new like scrambled eggs, toast, or biscuits which could help him gain some weight. You might find that your little fella will join you for dinner each night, just like my quaker , Beowulf , like to do .
Good luck to you and your birdie!
