Freddie and I miss Johnny a lot (I doubt the Quakers and Benjy have even noticed he's gone), but the good news is, Freddie needs me again. He used to be quite affectionate and sat on my finger and watched TV with me and when he got a tiel buddy, I ceased to exist for the most part. The two of them would still do heart wings and whistle for me and so on, but they were busy and didn't bother with me a lot.
Now Freddie follows me around, sits nearby, steps up (he won't stay on my finger long, but he wouldn't step up AT ALL before), lets me kiss his back, his wings and his head whenever I want to, and is very anxious to get my attention if I'm not interacting directly with him. He does heart wings all the time now. He even risked Clyde's wrath to sit on my head when Clyde was on my shoulder (and Clyde pulled his tail and chased him away, LOL). He has perfected his Rocky impersonation and I heard him working on the Andy Griffith theme this morning after I had been in their room to say good morning. He's been able to whistle that since he was a baby, but he's quite off-key. This morning, it sounds much better. He's been practicing.

That's great to hear (although it's a pity it's due to Johnny passing away...). It's very heart-warming that he's interacting more personally with you. Well done! You're a great parront.

That's great news about Freddie. He has made the adjustment to Johnny not being there anymore.

I was worried he'd be lonesome without Johnny, and he is, but he seems to be getting along all right. He spends a lot of time working on his vocalizations now. He has Rocky down pat. He whistles songs. He says "pretty baby" over and over. In vain I have tried to teach him other phrases, but either he isn't ready to show them to me, or he'd rather whistle. I'm okay with that. Jade is also making strides. She usually flies to my shoulder in the mornings, but only for a moment and flies back to her cage. She sat on my shoulder a while this morning so that's a step forward.
And another bright note, Rocky is getting more playful and less crazy every day. I don't know what flipped his switch, exactly. He's made slow but steady progress over the 2 1/2 years he's lived with us, but in the last month or so, he's made big strides. He acts goofy, and he's talking a lot more (I can't understand most of it, but it's talking and not just bird sounds). He didn't freak out when I brought the Christmas tree in, even though it's huge (I got carried away) and I cussed a lot trying to get it into the stand and straight. He's entertaining himself more and screaming less. If I knew what brought this on, I'd keep doing it. LOL
