Crazy Little Oscar... So yesterday I decided to wash my kitchen floor and it isn't small so it does take some time.
I am down on my hands and knees with my bucket and rag and I started at the patio window and am working backwards toward the living room.
Hubby walks in and says... you have some company. I am a little confused but when I look around I see Oscar had decided to come down off his cage and join me. He very rarely comes on the floor but he just wanted to be with me. He slowly walks around and checks things out and then decides that he needs to chase my wash cloth... lol
Of course I am moving it round and round and wringing it out... and he is constantly after it. I keep washing and moving backwards and he keeps following me.... or shall I say the cloth. lol
After about 20 minutes he figures he did enough so he decided to catch a ride and goes behind me and crawls up on my ankle. From there he can easily attack my slippers (which he hates) and bite my ankle at the same time... geeezzz.
Finally he crawls over to the back of my leg and sits there for the rest of the ride. He actually stays there until I finish the floor. duhhhhh.... what a bird!!

Something I often say to Ralph would be appropriate to say to Oscar too: You're such a big help for such a little parrot.

Haha, I can just imagine you grovelling on the floor with your bum sticking up (that's where our quakers think we should be, LOL).

At first he probably wondered what you found so interesting down there, and then stuck around to supervise. But Julianna, on your hands and knees scrubbing with a rag? That sounds like something Mother Superior assigns to punish wayward novices! I'm sure your floor is much cleaner than mine, though. I like to say you can eat off my floors.... if you're not too picky.

I used to do that in the birds' room because parrot poop is composed of some kind of substance that they should investigate for repairing pot holes in the road. Then I was writing an article about the zoo and saw one of the keepers using a long handled scrub brush to loosen parrot poop for the resident macaw and it WORKED. Yahoo! I immediately went out and bought one and no more crawling around on the floor.

Siobhan, HOORAY for the long handled scrub brush! Julianna, maybe you could get a miniature one for Oscar to hold in his beak...OK, granted he most probably will never clean up after himself, but you can live in hope.

You are all too funny... lol.... I don't always do the floors on my hands and knees as I usually steam them clean. However, every now and then I can see little things stuck on the floor that the steam cleaner left behind. It is amazing what I find when I am down there.... even a bird.. ha ha ha... I wish Oscar would help... all he has to do is stop flinging things around and just drop what he doesn't want onto the newspaper. Ya think he could do that? NOOOOOOO way.... lol lol. There are lots of times when Oscar is playing in the bathroom that I will go in there on my hands and knees. He loves this and squawks and squeals... then I put my whole head inside the drawer he is in.. he kisses me all over... Just too much fun sometimes.

Julianna, you should set up a camera in your house to catch all of this...I'm sure it would be a YouTube sensation & go 'viral' as they say. I'm laughing hysterically just imagining what goes on at your place.

I must echo Gary's comments...since when does any quaker (or any parrot, for that matter) drop anything in an appropriate area? NEVER!

Yeah... he sure is a messy little guy. When I was first thinking of getting a parrot, I told my husband that I didn't want to clean up after him alone. I wanted a pet to love and care for. Little did I know that it would turn into a full time job. It is really amazing the mess he can make and I sure am happy he doesn't fly around flinging his food.
I can sweep the living floor and pick up the seeds and within 1/2 hour... I could sweep it again and pick up seeds. Never ending story.

As it says in an old parrot book I have, "parrots are inclined to be messy."

Inclined. HA. They LIVE for that! Every day I tell my gang that I can clean and clean and turn my back long enough to empty the dust pan and BAM, you can't tell I was ever there. They find this amusing. Brats.

That line in the parrot book always makes me laugh. I would have written it in less genteel terms: parrots are SLOBS!

I bought myself a very expensive robot vacuum cleaner for Christmas. I've never been a good housekeeper and the mess Pidge makes!! It works a treat. Floors need a quick spot check and I'm right. I also use Eko works cleaner which has no odour and seems to work well on poo. ekoworxstore.com/ I'm gradually building a routine. I don't know why I keep putting off cleaning his cage, it really is not that bad using the power hose in this heat. We've had quite a few days around 40 degrees (104 farenheit) so a bit of splashing is good.
