As you all know, my foster kitten Mia became a permanent fixture. Two weeks ago on Sunday, I noticed she was lethargic and not eating so rushed her to the nearest emergency vet (about an hour away). They immediately took her temperature which was really high, put her on a drip and did a blood test as they suspected renal failure. Kidneys ended up being fine so they transferred her the next day to another vet about 2 kms away. I picked her up from there and transferred her to my vet. Another blood test - the results were not good. One of her muscle enzymes was 31,000 - it should be around 32. All white cell counts were high. She was diagnosed with toxoplasmosis which, it is thought, she contracted in-utero. She was placed back on a drip and kept in hospital until Thursday. She came home with antibiotics. Took her back the following Tuesday as she had stopped eating again (not that she was eating that much in the first place) and had become light sensitive with eyes streaming clear fluid. Her temp was now 40.3 (should be 37) and her chances were 60:40. Another blood test was taken and all results were virtually back to normal, including the muscle enzyme which was at 32. She was given anti-inflammatories and an eye ointment. Each day we battle on - she has about 5 small meals a day - sometimes she eats, sometimes she doesn't. If she recovers, it will be a very long and slow process but I am determined to get her through this. She is only 9 months old and very small for her age (probably due to the toxo). Please say a prayer for her recovery.
