Rocky 'Too is hormonal, so getting him to bed has become an exercise in futility. We have to keep him up until he's so exhausted he will actually shut up and go to bed. Which means, of course, that the noise of his screaming and the activity and etc. keeps the little parrots from getting to bed on time, too. I spend as much time in their room as I can, but my job has become extra-demanding with a new boss on board, and my hours are even more erratic, and I have to squeeze Bird Time in wherever I can. Clyde will yawn and stretch and look longingly at his cage, but if I say the word "bedtime," he gets really mad (he's also hormonal) and attacks the back of my neck. That's his favorite place to chomp now. He runs up my arm and dives at the back of my neck.
Among all this joy and fun and seasons in the sun, I went into their room last night for a brief visit, which is all they've had every day this week thanks to my insane job, and Benjy took over my hand as usual. He was sitting there chattering to my thumb (no, I don't know why he does that, LOL) and I realized his beak looked funny. I took a closer look and the tip was gone, the end was blunt and had dried blood on it. He also had the budgie equivalent of a black eye -- it was puffy and there was a little dried blood under the feathers. Now, he was acting perfectly normal, chattering, regurgitating for my thumb, flew over to get a snack a couple of times and ate perfectly normally, preened, all things he couldn't do if his beak hurt very much, but it looks horrible. I suspect Jade. She regularly beats him up, but she hasn't tried to do actual damage for a long time. Mostly she pulls his tail and that's that. And it might not have been Jade. Right before I discovered the damage, Benjy had been sitting on her cage gazing in at her with adoration, but then, he adores both her and Clyde and my opinion is, he thinks he's a Quaker, too.
