Hi My name is Kevin and my wife Debbie and I have 3 Quakers,Spirit,Trouble and Fiesty, They are all rescues. We got them as babies and Debbie hand fed them Spirit is a little over 3 years old and the other 2 are a little over 2 years old. Each has their own personality and are quite content. The spend several hours flying around (with supervision) every night. They can be quite noisy at times but they are great pets. Thry really don't talk per se One time Trouble was on my shoulder and clearly said "dont start" and Fiesty did say "hello" very low a couple of times. Spirit sings and will laugh when Debbie laughs! They make all kinds of noises that Im sure all Quaker ownerswill know! Far from being experts we hope to share and learn from others in the forum!

Welcome, Kevin, Debbie and the flock! Three Quakers has to mean there's never a dull moment at your house. I'm sure you'll have fun stories to share and good advice to give to other Forum members.

Hi everyone and thanks! Oh yes it can get quite interesting around here with our "zoo" Spirit came to us from a utility company nest removal. Her nest was 60 feet high, right underneath a 115,000 volt disconnect switch in a substation switch yard. Since I work for the power company and this substation is "mine" I had the unpleasant task to arrange for the outage and get the lineman in to remove the nest. I would have been happy to just leave it alone but "orders is orders" Debbie asked if there were any parrots in the nest and if so would we hurt them. I told her I didn't want to hurt anything but the nest had to go because if the switch had to operate under load, it put out quite an arc that would without a doubt set the nest on fire. Anyway when the nest was being removed, there were no parrots around only Spirit alone in the nest. The lineman in the bucket kept saying "i cant do it Icant do it and brought Spirit down. I called Debbie and asked her if she wanted a baby parrot and of course she said yes so that how we got Spirit! Now the other two....got a call one evening from a friend at work asking me if I wanted more parrots. He had 4 babies in a box from another nest removal. 2 were already spoken for. SO again I asked Debbie and she said to go get them and I did. I heard later that there were a total of 15 baby parrots! Im pretty sure that they were adopted- I hope so. I THINK its not legal to have a Quaker where I live so I wont say where im located but we couldn't refuse helpless baby parrots! They are a lot of fun but quite noisy at times when they all get going with each other. Spirit has been plucking a bit but she is in good health as are the other 2. There is a small river that runs along the edge of our property. We feed about 100 mallard ducks that fill up our back yard every morning and evening and 3 Muscovy ducks not to mention a Canada Goose that "adopted" us for a month or so and a family of Swans that visit in the river from time to time. Debbie and I have counted about 30 different types of birds that visit our backyard. We are AGWAYs biggest bird seed customers! CNYGUY is that a Zenith Trans-Oceantic (sic) radio in your profile pic?

CNYGUY is that a Zenith Trans-Oceantic (sic) radio in your profile pic? You have a good eye for old radios! I used to have one like that a long time ago, when I lived in a house that had room for such things; had to give 'em up when I moved to a more modest-sized apartment. I used to rescue and restore (and sometimes resell) old radios. Speaking of rescues, thank you for taking on your rescued Quakers. If anyone asks, you can say they're Montevideo Parrots-- a very obscure alternate name for QPs.

Cool CNYGUY. My grandparents had one in their house. The grill/speaker was just a little different than the pic you have but the dial looks exactly the same. My uncle in FLA has the radio now. He redid all the wood and found a guy like yourself who redid the electronics. It sounds GREAT just like it did when I was a kid listening to it at my grandparents. Being a "ham" radio operator helped tagging your zenith perhaps?

Being a "ham" radio operator helped tagging your zenith perhaps? I'm sure it did.
