I have 4 year old female green quaker, Jade, and a 3 year old blue one, Azul. I am not sure if Azul is male or female as I have not had them DNA tested. I have noticed mating behavior countless times. Jade goes to bottom of the cage and calls to Azul. they go to a perch or corner of the cage and Azul mounts Jade etc. Jade has laid eggs in the past but her maternal instinct hasn't kicked in until this last clutch of eggs. All of a sudden she is the protective mama and is setting. She appears to be doing everything right. Azul stands guard, makes sure Jade is comfy, and watches over eggs when Jade goes up to drink etc. I have candled the eggs 3 times nowthe last time was at 24 days and they are infertile. She has been setting on them for 26 days. I have a couple of questions. 1. should I just remove the eggs at this point? 2. why would they be infertile? 3. is it possible Azul is female?

It is quite possible that they are both female. Females will form that mate bond with another female, a human, or sometimes even an inanimate object. I wouldn't take them away just yet. If you take them before she loses interest in them, she's likely to lay more to replace them. There's no reason to risk her health laying infertile eggs. I'd try to discourage it in the future, for the same reason. Even if Azul is a male, breeding parrots is not something to get into accidentally.
