One month to the day Actually 5 weeks since I left Melbourne with Bonnie to drive to Darwin and she hasn't said "goodnight" once since leaving...until last night! She said it just once (normally 3-4 times in our Melbourne house), but it made my night!

Maybe she realizes now the new routine is similar to the old one. (The king is dead! Long live the king!) How are you settling in?

Maybe she realizes now the new routine is similar to the old one. (The king is dead! Long live the king!) How are you settling in? Very well, thank you. I'm not cold (yay!). The new job has better conditions and more pay (yay, again!). Hubby arrived at Darwin airport at midnight - there are no direct flights from Melbourne to Darwin at any other time - and...guess what? Today the bugger bird cozied up to him straight away and completely ignored me, for 2 hours at least! The little turncoat.

Glad all is working out well and that Bonnie is finally settling in. How long will hubby be staying?

That must have made him feel very good. 😍Yes, it did...although the next day and today she tried to peck him. But the rest of the time she virtually ignored me and was obsessed with him.

How long will hubby be staying? He'll be flying back to Melbourne on Tuesday night. We had a good time this weekend - went to the Darwin Military Museum and the WW2 Oil Tunnels and ate a nice lunch of Barramundi today.

The barramundi is brilliant in the NT. We had fresh caught barramundi when I was there many, many years ago. As I was camping, we had it for breakfast, lunch and dinner

I love that Bonnie said "goodnight" and I am sure she will again and again. Also good that she cuddled up to hubby at least for a little. I guess she knows that he is part of the flock no matter what...
I am happy that you are happy with the job and apartment and everything there. Good for you. Good people deserve good things.

Thanks, all! Bonnie has amazed me with how adaptable she's been! I found a vet here and while my hubby was visiting he took her to get another hormone implant (as I got a letter just after I moved, saying she was due for another one). We feel it has helped her to self-regulate her behaviour. Bonnie loved seeing "daddy" and when we spoke on the phone I put him on speaker so she could hear his voice. I could practically see the wheels turning in her little head as she tried to work out why she could hear him but not see him! But she was fine and seemed to enjoy it. It's funny how things go...literally 2 weeks after arriving in Darwin, V/Line rang up to offer me a train conductor position in Geelong. I had been waiting to hear from them since January (when I passed their medical). So I declined, but I am still in their 'Talent Pool' for anything that comes up after the end of this year. I suspect I won't need that, though. I am on 'probation' in my Darwin job until the end of this year. I was 'ongoing' in Victoria, but this is a different system and hopefully after I pass probation here I will get a permanent position. Or else I can change jobs out of teaching here, as there is much less competition for jobs, so therefore more opportunities. All in all, I'm in a lot better position than I was at the start of the year.

You put in a great effort to get another job - it is a credit to you that you are now in demand.

Thanks! This month Metro advertised for more trainee train drivers again (that was the one they got 10,000 applications for 110 positions last year & I got right to the end of the testing phases then just missed out). One of the girls I was tested alongside actually got through and is being trained now - she said Metro made such a mess of the recruitment last year that they ditched all of the applications and are starting again from scratch. I did apply for this intake just for the sake of it, but this time specified 'Special Requirements' needed for testing/interviews, due to being in Darwin. Given my experience of Metro last year I don't expect to hear back. But I'm not keen to go through it all again, anyway. I also got invited to an Assessment Centre for Yarra Trams, but didn't pursue it because I heard from a previous employee that they are dreadful to work for and the conditions are awful.
