Jade is making more leaps and bounds recently. She does this periodically. She'll make some giant leap forward in the quest to be a regular parrot and then nothing for months. Today's leap was that she wanted morning kisses like everyone else gets. She decided this while I was giving Clyde and Benjy theirs. She flew over to Clyde's cage and sat on his front perch and reached up for kisses. Clyde couldn't let this go by unchallenged, and he hopped onto the perch and started a beak battle with her. Usually she gives way instantly and this time, she didn't. They actually had a little fight (maybe three seconds, I broke it up). I was astounded. She's never, ever stood her ground before.

Welcome back. It's always nice to hear about new progress Jade is making. Now, if Clyde could be persuaded to be nicer to Jade when she makes the effort to be nice to him...

Way to go, Jade! I can just imagine you standing there with your mouth open in shock, before intervening.

She has now taken to flying over to sit on my knee when I'm in the bird room. I still can't offer a finger to step up, but she'll sit there very chummy for quite a while.

Must be something in the air. When I got Shah up this morning, he gave me kisses (kissing sounds included) for about 3 minutes. It was absolutely wonderful as he hasn't done this since we have moved here.

She flew to my shoulder when I went in to open their curtains this morning - I stopped locking them in overnight due to the Cockatiel Union's latest contract - and missed and ended up in my hair, squawking. LOL We got that fixed, and she landed on my shoulder again while I was saying good morning to Clyde and Benjy and she demanded "kiss, kiss" (I touch her beak with my finger and make the sound). She's been on my arm twice, and chomped me both times. She sits on my knee whenever I sit down. Clyde is livid, but I'm ecstatic. It's eight years since she moved in and this is the most cozy she's ever been.

Oh my gosh, way to go Jade! I'm giggling at the 'terms of the cockatiel union' and imaging Clyde self-combusting at Jade's newfound friendship with you, but I'm so pleased she's making progress. It's so lovely when birds that have been previously misunderstood and poorly taken care of show signs of recovery. Well done, Siobhan!

I think Benjy the budgie probably helped write the contract, but it was the tiels who negotiated the terms. Last night they slept on the curtain rod. The night before they slept on the knick knack shelf. Sometimes they sleep on the hanging lamp. Once in a great while, they sleep in their cages, or in the same cage together, but that's really rare. I finally surrendered. Benjy has always wanted to sleep in Clyde's cage, and I don't want to lock them in together in case Clyde has a mood, which he is prone to do. So with the tiels refusing to go into their cages and Benjy refusing to come out of Clyde's at bedtime, what's the point? I never shut the cage doors now. Their room is bird-safe, they can get up whenever the light comes in bright enough to suit them, and start committing mayhem. It works out for everybody.

I think that is fabulous Siobhan.... letting them make the decision when it is time for a nap or time to get up. I also was laughing over the union contract.... lol lol.
Wow 8 years before she would come around. Poor little girl... I am smiling big time knowing she has finally settled in.

You must have to do LOTS of poop patrols.

Yes I agree Biteybird. I know how much I do with just one... so I can only imagine.

Trust me, I check clothes and hair and even pant legs if I've been with birds and am planning to go out in public. LOL Rocky, at least, (cockatoo) has the class to demand to be taken back to his cage for poops, but nobody else has the manners to even warn me. And with birds zipping hither and yon and landing on me or flying off me willy-nilly, I can't possibly notice every time one leaves something behind.

I've forgotten a couple of times and been told while I'm out that I'm decorated on the back
