Yesterday, I took Oscar for a total of 11 hour car ride to see his Vet. He was quite well behaved in the truck as long as I was holding him... lol. There is a medium size cage in between the driver and passenger but Oscar doesn't want to go in it... well... why would he when I always give in and hold him? lol....
Anyway... his check up was great. The vet said to me... I can tell he is eating mostly pellets and I said yes... a little seed but not much. She said I can tell right away because his bill is in great shape and color and inside his throat shows that he is not eating the wrong food. Apparently there are some muscle things that she can see in his throat and she commented how well they looked.
She told him his color was excellent and he is in good shape. She felt for all the right spots and said he is doing very well. Of course by now I am beaming because I am such a proud Momma. I said to her I am told he might be too fat. She said... well a little but I would not call him fat. He is in good shape. She said fat birds will have sunken areas at the bottom of their breast bone and Oscar has none of this. I guess I give him enough exercise that it has paid off.
I know he was suppose to be on a diet and I did change his eating to mostly pellets and veggies and a little fruit... but he actually gained 2 grams since last year. She told me not to worry about his weight and gave his body score a 5... which is ideal.
Ohhhhh... I was soooo happy. They trimmed his long toe nails and his wings a little... and Oscar was such a trooper... never bit anyone. He was very stressed at one point because I forgot his carrying cage and they gave me one to use... and of course he freaked out being in it. But that only last 15 minutes.. and he was free again.
I cannot tell you how happy I was and still am. Aaron I want to thank you again for recommending the natural apple cider vinegar in his water... as the vet told me to continue with this. I use one whole bottle of water in his drinking bowl and add a few drops of the vinegar... and the vet said excellent... as long as he gets a little... all is good.
I must tell you that while I was at the Vet's a lady and her daughter came in with a huge red rooster... that is their house pet. OMG... it was beautiful and I was totally amazed that someone would have a rooster as a pet. She said they take the rooster everywhere with them... and he is very calm and quite the people person. Now... I would never have a rooster as a pet as I would not want the clean up part... lol.... the bigger the bird... the bigger the poops... lol.
Sooo.... just wanted to tell you how I am such a proud Momma.... and so proud of my little guy... the trip was very much worth it. Oscar did not eat much on the way there so on the way back I bought him a cooked perogie and he had bits of that with a drop of ginger ale... for being such a good boy.
