Hello all!
I'm Ellie, my Quaker is Tin Tin. She's been described as an "extra sassy" bird, which makes for a lot of fun and a LOT OF frustration. Here's a fun story to start:
My mom and I bought her from a family that was moving to New Jersey. They were Brazilian, let her drink coffee, stand on people's heads and her name was Jose Manuel. She was supposedly dna sexed male... We renamed her Tin Tin because of her matching the colour of Hergé's character's sweater, and it also means sky sky in Cantonese. We had had our vet also do a blood test when we got her to see that everything was in order, but they must not have done the dna test again because it was done by her old vet, and NOBODY could mess that up, right? Last summer I walked by her cage and lo and behold, there was an egg in the bottom. It explained SO MUCH and we are very lucky she didn't become egg bound at boarding because of it.
I'm happy to be here, and you can all look forward to many more stories of my wee beast because she is truly something else.

Welcome to you and Tin Tin! I like that name-- it's creative and unique. I'm sure that egg was a big surprise.

G'day Ellie and Tin Tin! That cartoon used to be one of my favourites when I was a kid (along with Asterix & Obelix). I look forward to hearing tales of your "extra sassy" bird (we also have one like that!).

Hello Ellie and Tin Tin... if you have never owned a Quaker before you will be in for quite a surprise. These little guys are a lot of fun and can be like little kittens or like a barking dog. You never know what you will get... lol.
I am excited to hear more stories of your little one. Just curious... did you leave the egg in the cage or remove it?

Hello Ellie and Tin Tin! I agree, excellent name! Quakers are mental. But they are also brilliant. It transforms your whole house when you bring one home, but after a while, if they are away for any reason, at boarding or the vets, the house feels incredibly empty. They are amazing companions. We look forward to more stories of you and Tin Tin! Maya sits on my head sometimes (only mine, though, she knows she's not allowed on anyone else's!) but coffee (or caffeine of any kind) is a definite no-no for our bird! Hopefully, you'll be able to wean Tin Tin off coffee and on to a healthier drink. They're adaptable little things, so I'm sure you will.
