So Lady and I have a routine every morning. She loves it. I have to take my kids to school every morning, so things get kind of hectic. But after that, I have about an hour before I have to head to work myself, so that is when I come home, get her out, and get some computer work done while she walks around the room, plays on her stand, sits on my knee, "talks" to me, whatever she wants to do. She has fun and we get some time together. But then, I have to get ready to leave, and she knows when it is time for me to do that. I put her on her stand and leave the room to get my things together. When I come back in, she sees my book bag that I use to carry my laptop in and she starts making this noise. Its a weird noise, and for the longest time, I couldn't figure it out. Finally, it hit me. She is mimicking the sound that the zipper makes after I pack my computer up! This is the only time that I hear her do this noise. She sees my book bag, and she knows the zipper sound and she mimics it. So, after I figured it out, I tested it. I would unzip and zip it back, and sure enough, she would answer with the same sound nearly every time! She is such an amazing bird.

Bonnie and Lady would get along great...Bonnie does this too and it's one of her favourite noises to make. Very cute! It's amazing how similar some quaker personalities are.

It is such a cute noise to hear. And I love how she associates it with my book bag. She knows what makes the noise and whenever she sees it, that is when she makes her noise. I can't get her to do it at any other time. She only does it when I am packing up my stuff and preparing to leave for work. Bonnie and Lady probably would get along well! They seem to be quite similar.

Bonnie makes the zip noise whenever she sees clothing that has a zip, my laptop bag(s), backpacks and zips in the canvas when we are camping/glamping in our camper trailer (we take her with us). In fact, she does it anytime she sees anything that has a zip. It's always in context!
It amazes me how observant quakers are. Yesterday I was holding Bonnie in the end room of the house. Her back was to the window, but somehow she knew when a bird was flying past and I could feel her little body tense each time...I guess this heightened vigilance is how they would survive in the wild.

Birds are so fascinating! They can sense a lot of things that people are oblivious to. It's believed that they are able to internalize maps of earth's magnetic fields to help guide them in migration. That would be a handy skill to have. The more I learn about them, the more I want to know.

Easttex, if that's the case, then I definitely need to take Lady with me on all of my trips! I am so "directionally challenged" that I get lost all the time. Lady could be my navigator! But I know what you mean. I love to learn new things about parrots, and other animals in general. I teach 6-12 year old kids at my church every week. I did a series on animals and what we could learn about God from each animal. The kids loved it, and even though those lessons were over several months ago, those kids will still ask what animal we will be studying for our lessons. I may have to revive that series!

I also am "directionally challenged"... lol. Put me in an area that I am not familiar with and I cannot tell my right from left. I lived in a City for a few years and OMG... you have no idea how many times I got myself lost.

I'm OK if I have a map to look out, but without one I get lost easily. It's so bad I usually factor in an extra half-hour of 'getting lost' time when I go places.

The bad thing with me is that I cannot read a map. I have never been able to acquire that skill set. I am so thankful for the advent of GPS! And I also have to factor in time for me to maneuver through unfamiliar streets. I typically say that I am just "taking the long way around." My kids have gotten used to this and just ask me how many times I made wrong turns in order to get where I was going.

The best place I ever lived for getting somewhere was the Denver area. The Rockies were always in view to the west, and they ran more or less north/south. It didn't mean everything was easy to find, but you never lost your orientation. jenwade, you probably wouldn't want to rely on Lady for travel. Not many parrots are true migrators so she might not be too much help. I don't doubt she would give you directions, though.

Oh well. It was worth a shot. LOL!! I think that I will stick to my small town, where I have lived all my life. If I have to go out of town, my husband can drive, I can follow someone, or I can have my GPS. If any of those things happen, I am generally ok.
