Hi everyone I was hoping to chat with people who have a new baby quaker. I got Pigeon (Pidge for short) on 27th Dec. I think he was about 13 weeks old. He was fully fledged, weaned and hand raised. He's gorgeous but I know this is the time to teach him his manners. He is very social and loves visitors which I'm glad about because I mostly live alone but will need people to look after him when I am away. I have trouble with him accidentally biting too hard and stealing letter keys from my computer (I'm getting a clear cover). He can step up automatically, he can also ladder but loses interest. I had visions of toilet training and harness training but realise now I may be too ambitious. I have hand reared a lorikeet who was so playful but this little fellow is not playful, he is a world class chewer. All the toys I bought him were not suitable and now I make my own toys. Cheers Lyn

Pigeon has successfully completed the first 3 steps of the Human Slave Training Manual. I am also from Australia so welcome to the forum and don't be shy in asking questions. The members of this forum are a great group of people who will help you in adapting to being a slave to your quaker.

Jan is quite correct, you've been very well trained so far! Welcome and please don't despair as 13-17 weeks is early days - plenty of time for you and Pidge to get to know one another. I would say don't rush things, just do one little thing at a time. ....Don't get me started on computer keys! If you're interested you can read about our experience in the thread called 'Bonnie and the Laptop' or something similar.

Hello Pidgesmum... and welcome to the forum. Your little Pidge sounds quite healthy... They are very curious, want a lot of attention and are trainable. I have Oscar trained not to poop on me and yes it took a little time.. but not that long. Mind you he was 2 years old when I got him.
Pigeon looks gorgeous in the picture... such a nice soft blue.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. We all love to help one another.

He is a beauty! He's exploring his world, and like a human baby, a lot of that is done by mouth. As young as he is, it may be enough to let him know he has hurt you, without too much fanfare. You don't have to punish him, or pull away sharply, or yell to let him know it hurts. Maybe an "ow" and rubbing where he bit would do it.
