Our furnace keeps shutting off which I think means it needs to be cleaned. Is it safe to have the birds at home while that happens? I have my neighbor who I can bring them to. I change the filters once a month.

The only time a furnace will be unsafe is if there is gas leaking from it. Usually you can smell the gas yourself. When they clean the furnace and it gets re-started, there will be some dust expelled into the air. I don't think it will be much to hurt your Quaker but it is always safer to let the dust settle first and clean it up.
I am presuming they will be cleaning the ducts and if that is what they are doing, they will be using vacuum cleaners so most of the dust will be eliminated right there.
I am no furnace expert and maybe some others on here will have an opinion as well.

Thanks, I though they were going to spray stuff because I was thinking it was like cleaning a floor, I haven't seen the furnace be cleaned before so I was worried about that.
