Happy was always very afraid of hands (especially fingers,) for the first few years she was with us. She had gotten to the point where we were able to use our fingers to scritch her head. Now she will consistently land and perch on our fingers (instead of our head) if we offer our hands as she flies to us. I realize this probably seems like a small thing to folks who have had their Quakers from babyhood on, but for a rescue bird...this kind of trust is really heartwarming and meaningful for us. It's very touching to have a neglected/abused bird recover and learn to trust again. Worth every minute and year of work.

This gives me some hope for Peppy. He'll bite any hand he can reach, but is so sweet otherwise. But I've only had him for a couple of months, after 21 years of who knows what kind of treatment, so we'll keep working on it.

My experiences with Jade and her fear of hands! I get it. She's asking for beak strokes consistently now and is preening my hair instead of pulling it and while we don't seem to be any closer to stepping up than we ever were, she's so much calmer and more sociable than she used to be. Baby steps!

We've had Happy 4/5 years now (I don't honestly keep track,) but it certainly doesn't feel that long...and it seems like she's come sooo far in that time. I'm just tickled every time she moves forward in any way. <3

I have two of them, one just wants to attack you every time you get close to the cage. The other one is warming up to me. She comes to me once in a while when I get close to the cage. And she wants my hair to pull on, and she still wants to bite if you move fast. But she takes food from too. I am amazed I only had them since Saturday. They are 2 years old. My son just wants to hold one, but I keep telling him to be patient with them. And soon he will be able too.
