Sorry to hear that Biteybird but don't give up hope. I am sure there is something just around the corner - probably a screaming quaker

I am also sorry to hear you didn't get the Metro job. Good luck on your next interview.. I am sure you will find something not as stressful as your teaching job.
Best wishes.

I did a 2-hour psychometric test battery for another job yesterday and today got a phone call inviting me to an interview on Friday next week.
Siobhan, you know words...in the verbal knowledge timed test there was a word 'desuetude' (or something similar). We had to look at the given word and choose from 4 options which word meant the same. I didn't know this one and there were about 4 or 5 others I'd never heard of, but I just took a punt based on the first few letters and sometimes clues from French etc. So out of about 60 words or so I think I got well over 50 correct.
The second timed test was block patterns where we had to select the missing part of the pattern based upon the example given, but the pattern was rotated/reversed (which I found really difficult and the time ran out before I could answer the last two questions). Then I had to do about 4 personality/psychological questionnaires (all up about 400 multiple choice questions).
Between the Metro tests and this one I've done enough psychometric tests to last me quite a while! I must say it's been interesting, even if I don't get the job/s.

Holy smokes. I have never had to do an interview like those. Thank goodness. I have given other people many interviews but usually (because their job would need to be taught as there are no courses for it) I would just ask questions and try to figure out who these people were and why they should be given a Government job. I was happy that in most cases I picked the right person for the job.
If I had to answer questions like you did.... I would probably be unemployed forever... lol

Good grief - are you running for Prime Minister? What is the point of these tests? I would find them very intimidating as I don't believe they are pertinent to any job. Good luck Biteybird - I hope something comes your way soon.

Well, yes, the tests are intimidating. But funnily enough, after doing so many I've almost ceased to care as the odds of getting through them, then getting a job offer are so slim that it's not worth my sanity worrying about each one too much... There are about 2500 people moving into Melbourne EVERY WEEK (yes!), so employment-wise it's dog eat dog out there. Just have to persist.

Bummer about not making the cut for metro! The process definitely sounds interesting though. Gosh, so much testing! I too am rather shocked to hear of all these strange tests. The closest thing I've ever experienced with when I interviewed with Google, but that was just rapid fire questions (fairly odd ones) about coding. Only made it to the second round of interviews for that

I got through the psychometric tests and had a 50-minute interview on Friday afternoon (with scenario-based questions etc.). I'll find out whether or not I got through that within 2 weeks - if so, I then need to do another interview at one of the Head Offices. I have to admit the whole process is starting to wear me down...but one has to keep trying and "fight the good fight"!

Got my rejection email today for that last one - just completed online psychometric tests for V/Line and will apply for a job in Alice Springs. Or else I just have to keep doing my current work until I drop. Sigh...guess I just have to embrace the agony of the multiple phases of applying for ANY job these days. I'm not giving up!

You have good spirit biteybird... and sorry you got rejected again. If you lived here... I would have hired you in a second. (actually I can't hire anymore as I am retired... lol) but I would have before!!!
Best wishes.

It sounds like you should be prepared for any further interviews/tests/interrogations/torture sessions in the future. Sorry these didn't work out, but it can take a while to find the right one. Could be the next one.

Sorry to hear that Biteybird. Just take a spell and then get back to it. Don't let the rejections make you feel bad. I was at No. 2 for various positions quite often and only got the last job through someone who worked there. It's tough out there
