I am sure all of your quakers love to preen you as Oscar does with me. Any little thing he finds sticking out of my body he will try and remove.
For a long time I have had a small mole on the top part of my chest so when he is nibbling around it, I would put my finger on the mole and tell him "don't touch". He never had until lately. I guess I had a glass of wine one day and did not pay as much attention as I should have and the quick little buggar got the mole and chewed it off. (I hope he didn't swallow it lol) It was okay for a while but there was a little lump and I figured it was scar tissue.
This week that scar tissue grew and grew and soon I had a leaky lump. I went to the hospital (dr. appts. are just too slow) and they froze the area and lanced it and yuck... all the puss poison came pouring out. Too gross.
The Dr. figures it will be fine and I am hoping so. I do not have an immune system so fighting infection is very difficult for my body. Got my antibiotics and hoping everything clears up. It is still a little lumpy today and bleeding but I presume it will get better.
I was wondering if anyone else has gotten an infection from Quaker bites?

Sorry you got an infection, hope the antibiotics do their job fast. Keep an eye on it in case you need something stronger or they need to test the bacteria to see what they fighting. Casey only gave me one bite years ago when she was anxious to be eating some salmon at dinner time and I moved her plate . It never broke the skin

Eeek! Sounds horrible... I have only had two bites from Bonnie that broke the skin, although hubby has had many. Touch wood, no infections so far. Hope you recover soon.

I can't count how many bites I have gotten that have broken my skin. Keeping in mind Oscar is with me almost 24/7. If not on my shoulder, then on my lap, belly, finger, toes... you name it. Most of the bites were to tell me I cannot carry him on my left shoulder and hold something else in my left hand at the same time... lol
Or because he forgets that my left hand is a friend and not an enemy. This usually happens only when he is molting.
Still love the little guy and would not trade him in for the world.

Hope there will be no further complications with your parrot bite and that you'll quickly recover. Between my own parrots (the current ones and George the YCA), and parrots I've interacted with in pet stores, I lost count long ago of the number of parrot bites I've experienced. I've had some nasty ones, but luckily none have ever become infected.

Like Gary, I have received numerous bites from Shah over the years. Only a couple became infected but didn't need a visit to the doctor. I hope your "wound" heals quickly and you have no further complications.

Eeek! Hope that has cleared up by now (i'm a bit late to this thread)... Cupcake likes to obsess over specific places... and will open the same wound over and over again... These are usually on my forearms, and I will have to wear long sleeves all of the time in order to give them a chance to heal. Luckily no infections thus far. Sheesh!
