Normally I'll only read something if the budgies are fighting but today the budgies were covered and quiet but Ollie was at his 'talk to me' spot instead of his sleep spot. I gave him cucumber hoping atht maybe he would be sleepy if he had some veggies since he was whispering "yummy" but he came back down right after I had got up. So I got out the first book on my shelf and started reading it, Ollie was looking at the words and started to get a little sleepy while I read, we got through half a chapter and then I decided that it was time for bed. I got his cover and covered him, checking the front of the cage making sure that he moved up, he didnt for a few seconds but after he moved up to his sleep spot he looked around the cage until I lifted the cover next to him and said I love you and goodnight.

That's gorgeous! These quakers really are affectionate and smart - and full of surprises.

I read to him again today and he started falling asleep:) He's also calmer about going to bed since normally he can be a little bit shaken when t cover goes on.

That is really nice Hannah. I wish Oscar would let me read. If I am holding a book, he immediately goes down and tries to destroy it. If he is on the coffee table and I try to read the newspaper, I actually flip the pages on top of him because he will not move... lol. Of course before I am finished the newspaper, he has torn up at least half of it.

Lol maybe that's why Ollie was looking at the book haha I know if I play guitar near him he try's to break out and one of my budgies Bebe tried to sit on the guitar.

Oh wow... the guitar. Last time we had guitars playing in the house Oscar was nutso. He does not like the sound of it nor does he like the looks of it. I had actually put him to bed so that the guests could keep on playing and singing but Oscar would not stop screaming.
Eventually I took him out and made him come in my bed with me ... just to try and calm him down and it did work.
It is too bad Oscar hates this so much because I truly love it.

Ollie likes the guitar but he falls asleep to piano. I've heard each bird has its own taste when it comes to music. I know 1 of my budgies won't sing to anything but Green Day.

Cupcake used to really like story time when we put my stepdaughter to bed every night... Unfortunately we don't seem to have time for story time these days... always a rush to get everyone to bed on time, but Cupcake is generally totally peaceful as my wife reads, sitting on her shoulder. Sometimes she will decide to walk down an arm and demand rubs from my wife while she is reading, which makes for an interesting situation... the book is in her lap while she holds a bird and I turn the pages for her as needed. At any rate, Cupcake definitely likes the reading.

I sometimes read to Ralph and Scooter, but Scooter quickly gets bored and finds something else to do. Ralph will listen for a while then squawk for me to put down the book and play a tapping game instead-- unless I read from the parrot supply catalog. He likes that, especially when I show him the pictures of parrots and talk about what kind of parrots they are.
