Yoshi has done this for a long time. He only seems to do it when he is happy or excited, when we are interacting. I don't know where he picked it up, or if it's just something they do, but I've never heard of it before or seen anyone else talk of it. He will stretch his neck way out and make a clicking noise. I finally managed to get a good video of it.
I would always say "you silly bird" after he did it, so now he says that after doing it.

Could it be something he's picked up from a wild bird outside? I had trouble hearing it properly on your video. Bonnie makes clicking noises (copying our outdoor aviary bird noises), but she doesn't stretch her neck up/out.

I doubt he picked it up from a bird outside, he never spends much time by the window. He would be able to hear the birds outside, but I've never heard a wild bird make this noise, especially only while stretching their neck out!

He doesn't look distressed at all. Maya clicks her beak too and she'll nod when she wants something, I've not seen act out this combination, she stretches her neck out if she hears something interesting but doesn't click. Maybe you responding to this with 'you silly bird' reinforced it as a fun game! I don't know what the others think, but I don't think it's anything to worry about, just one of yoshi's personal quirks!

Yeah, I'm not worried about it, I was just really curious if anyone elses Quaker does this, as I've never seen anything like it! And I just can't figure out where he picked it up.
I think it's cute / funny, and when he first started doing it I would laugh. I'm sure that did reinforce it!

Yeah, I think it's cute, too (forgot to say that). Bonnie does several noises we didn't teach her. Maybe it's innate behaviour.

When Oscar gets going on talking up a storm, he will make the same moves and many others at the same time. I always presumed he was pulling the air in and then exhaling it to make those noises. Yoshi is just adorable.

Bishop will stretch his neck and click when he wants food someone has.

Ollie does it when he's begging or sees something shiny or bright.
