I have been away due to medical issues. Missed you all and am catching up on all the threads. Ducky is a happy boy, but his molt has been pretty severe. He was nearly bald on the top of his head. My BF, also bald on the top of his head and always wearing a baseball cap, offered to make Ducky a baseball cap if he was feeling self conscious about. I laughed and said I don't think Ducky cares so much. His bath time is always hilarious because he dunks his whole head in first. I asked if he was scuba diving, should we get him a snorkle. He's a bit sad right now because he is not out as often as my birthday present was a 10 week old Akita puppy. We are slowly introducing them, but it means we can't risk Ducky flying down to the floor unattended until Betty learns her place in the flock. Abby, the little 9 lb 3 year old pup, runs away from Ducky because he always wants to preen her and she doesn't like that so much. But I can hold Ducky without Abby getting upset about it. She just lays next to me and ignores him. Betty, the new pup, got her nose nipped through the bars of the cage and ran like hell. She's learning who top bird is. Of course, I never leave either of thevdogs alone with him. But Ducky is a fast little bugger.

Sorry that you are feeling unwell and I hope you get better soon. Poor Ducky.. it seems that many people on here are saying that this molt is a rough one for the QP's. I am surprised that he had a bald head so that is severe. Hopefully he is not pulling his feathers out. Happy belated birthday too. Wow... a new puppy. That sure gives you a lot to do. Ha ha ha that Ducky nipped Betty's nose.... yup... top bird for sure.
Take care.

He's not pulling his feathers out. He has a whole crop of pin feathers on top of his head and some have the feathers coming out of the sheaths. Looks a little like a mohawk now. Lol. And now the back of his neck is bald or pin feathers. Poor baby. He hasn't lost any wing feathers and only one tail feather. Boy, he's loving his bath time!

Hi duckysmom, hope your medical issues have been resolved. It sounds as though the new pecking order in your household has been pretty much worked out!

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well! Cupcake has been going through quite a molt as well, although not quite as severe as Ducky, it sounds like. Sounds like you have a lot going on there too! Good luck with the new pup!

Hello Duckysmum! I hope you're feeling better. New puppy! That's exciting! Don't worry, they'll all get used to each other and Ducky will retain his usual place as top bird Keeping them separate when you're not around to supervise is smart, and it sounds like you're doing great. The fact is that when you have multiple animals, they will squabble and nip. Maya gets along really well with Cleo (our mini lop bunny), but occasionally, if I pick Cleo up, Maya will fly over and lunge at her. I've become pretty good at deflecting her advances, making sure I turn my back for her to land on my shoulder, and holding up a hand to fend her off from Cleo, and the lunges have always been feints. Maya has never actually bitten Cleo, she loves her, but I would never leave them alone together. Keep up the good work, and good luck!

Seems like a lot of our QP friends are having a big molt. Chuckie has lots of vivid green feathers now in places that used to have grey feathers. Really amazing how having a diet designed for a parrot has improved his overall health. If only it could work on his attitude.
