I was in the same boat, zim, and it wouldn't hurt to contact the shelters anyway. Sometimes they have volunteers in other areas who are able to do the house visits. And some are more strict than others about the visits, and you might find one willing to bend the rules a bit for someone who is really sincere. That's how I got Allie. I had to travel four hours each way to get her, but it was worth it. She didn't get to choose me, but it has worked out well.

Hmm, I may have to contact STAR Avian and look into it more then. The other thing that worries me about bringing home a shelter bird is that my living conditions aren't ideal for a quarantine. I could have the birds about 30 feet apart max, but it would be in the same room.
I like the idea of giving a sheltered parrot a better life over supporting breeding. But I'm not sure if my situation would allow it.
Also, I don't have the time I once had to try to win over a (possibly) previously abused bird, which I imagine is much more difficult than winning over a hand fed baby. Nor do I have any experience.
