Oh my god I can't believe how much of an idiot I've just been! I'm staying overnight in Weymouth to support the boyfriend while he's running a crazy ironman triathlon. I asked a friend to take care of Maya but am now halfway to Weymouth and forgot to leave her my keys! The only other people who have spares are also in Weymouth. WHAT DO I DO? I don't think I left the light on in Maya's room, so it should just get dark when the sun goes down, but I've also left the radio on. I'm really worried she's going to be noisy all night and disturb our downstairs neighbours, or get spooked by a passing car. Do you think she'll be alright? I hate having anxiety, when stuff like this happens, this horrible little voice sets in and starts yelling 'IT'S ALL GOING TO GO WRONG AND DOWNSTAIRS WILL INSIST YOU GET RID OF MAYA AND YOU'LL NEVER SEE HER AGAIN! And I couldn't cope with that. I'd die.

Beccilouise, sorry to hear of this situation...there's no point beating yourself up; if it's just overnight I'm sure she'll be fine. I know it's easy to say, but one night is not going to be "the straw that breaks the camel's back", so to speak. I've forgotten to cover Bonnie's cage a couple of times and the only difference it made was that she woke up a little bit earlier (just squawked a little in the morning), but we didn't hear a peep out of her all night. As long as the radio is not too loud it should be OK for your downstairs neighbours. Try not to worry too much. Most likely you'll get back all frantic and she'll just look at you as if to say "What's YOUR problem?".

Thank you, I'm sure you're right, I've asked my friend to check the light from outside and just warn and apologise to my neighbours if I have left the light on. I never leave the radio on too loud so it should be ok. I'm such an idiot! Thanks

I doubt she'll be noisy at night... Once it is dark they are usually pretty quiet. One night will be fine. She might be a little confused by it, but that's probably the extent of it.

I hope I've remembered to turn the light off!

Ok, so my friend has just confirmed that I did turn out the light (she checked from the street) and the bf has finished his ironman triathlon a little worse for wear but basically still with all his arms and legs so all in all, everything is actually pretty much ok.

Great to hear! Now all you have to worry about is Maya giving you the cold shoulder when you return (after all, in her mind you will deserve it for leaving her). I used to do some little triathlons years ago (they were called 'sprint' distance), but my only good leg was the swim. My cycling and running sucked. So I figured maybe it wasn't for me. Ironman triathlon is VERY impressive - hope BF isn't too sore!

Thanks everyone. We got back earlier today and Maya was fine, very pleased to see us and a bit peckish for veggies (obviously she had only dry food while we were gone). She is now happily preening away on her play stand and scuttling down for occasional kisses. David is also ok. He's done his knees in, which is not surprising when you run a marathon immediately after a 7 hour bike ride! But otherwise, he's ok. I'm going to get an early night after all that stress.

I hope that in the midst of all that worrying you were able to enjoy yourself!
