Hi I today brought a new Quaker having had conures and after the death of my beloved bird we decided to buy treacle a six month old Quaker since bringing her home she has sat for four hours in one position they said at the pet shop she was semi tame is this normal for her to be so afraid

Very common. Try to put yourself in her feet. She's an intelligent, sensitive creature who has just been snatched away from what was her home, however undesirable it was. For all she knows at this point, you might plan on having her for dinner. She's no longer a baby, so she will be wary of new things, and you've just given her a whole lot of new. Be patient with her. If you can, put her cage in a spot where she'll feel protected, like in a corner, but where she can watch the household. Be calm around her, and talk gently. Don't try to take her out yet. Everyone should ignore her for the most part. No staring at her - that's predator behavior. I don't know what they meant by semi-tame, but assume it means she was a hand raised baby, but no one has worked with her since. She should come around and start getting curious enough to venture forth, but it might take some time.

Hi Amanda and welcome to the forum. Have you named your Quaker yet? These little guys need time to adjust for sure. Just be sure not to put your hand in and try to grab her/him to come out. She/he will in time... on their own. They need a lot of patience from you... and then you will see in the long run.. it will truly be worth it.
Most pet stores that I have seen.. do not give the birds and fresh vegetables or fruit which they need. Be sure to read the site on this forum about safe and dangerous foods.
Good luck and we are here to help you... if you need anything... please do not hesitate to ask.

The new bird is called treacle not sure weather he or she but the name popped in my head im just worried its not eating or drinking I put a slice of apple into the bars and it ate it then had an hissy fit when she dropped it like I said I had a conure who was my baby and was devastated when she passed away the house didn't feel the same and didn't want to replace her that's why we decided to have a Quaker after seeing her alone in the pet shop

Welcome to you and Treacle. It's not unusual if a parrot doesn't eat or drink when he/she first arrives in a new home. Treacle needs time to adjust to new surroundings and new people, and is naturally wary of all the new things suddenly in her life. Just be patient and take everything at whatever pace Treacle is comfortable with. As easttex suggested, be calm when you're around Treacle and speak gently. You might try sitting as near to Treacle's cage as she is comfortable with and talking softly to her, or reading aloud. That's a good way to help a parrot get used to the sound of your voice and your body language.

Well today treacle has been feeding and I have sat in a chair by her cage talking to her at one point she was at the front of the cage and didn't mind me to much being close to her still early days but I will take it slowly

It's hard to be sure without seeing it and the overall curcumstances, but if it isn't accompanied by aggressive behavior and she's not hungry, I would guess it is some form of approval. This link will take you to another thread where some of the possibilities are discussed: quakerparrotforum.com/thread/1339/head-bobbing

It is a little strange but Oscar my Quaker... will not hold fruit in his foot. He will hold anything else but fruit. Maybe your little one is the same and doesn't want to dirty their feet?? lol... try holding the fruit for him/her. It may help.

Cupcake doesn't like wet feet either. If one of us has just washed our hands, she will refuse to step up until they dry She too doesn't seem very fond of holding fruit with her feet for this reason, although if she really likes it she might do it anyway

I'm a bit late to this thread, but welcome to you and Treacle. It sounds as though you are off to a good start.
