As mentioned in a previous thread, Shah had eaten a bit of his happy hutch as he is stressed out about his temporary cage. I took him to the vet this morning and, sure enough, it is in his stomach. The vet said it hadn't become impacted and felt it would be relatively easy to remove. So he is living at the vet's until Monday afternoon. While I will miss him, I wont stress out about him hating his smaller cage for a couple of days. Poor old Shah - no more happy hutches for him now. We finally move on Thursday so he will get his old cage back but will be in a new environment.

No Biteybird - no relaxation. Taking another load of stuff to the house on Monday (was there last Thursday). As it is a 3 hour drive each way, I am getting sick of the travelling. Plus there are all sorts of problems with the house - don't know what has happened to the plumber but I have no water. At least the builder is back on the scene putting all the doors on. Left work on Friday so have no income until they pay me out - not sure how long that will take. I really cant afford another $1,000 at the vet but what can I do? I cant seem to get a break - the house has been a nightmare and cost me so much more than I thought it would - Shah is constantly getting into trouble - one of my workmates died suddenly last week, so just feel completely overwhelmed.

Little booger, that Shah. It sounds like a good time to have him out of your hair. I bought health insurance for Allie this week. Only one company offers it for birds and exotics in the US, and the coverage is not as good as what you can get for dogs and cats. It's not that expensive, though. $23/month for both wellness and medical. They have an annual payout limit of $7K and that wouldn't have come close to covering Peppy's vet bills, but it would have made a good dent. Is it available there? They'd probably exclude existing conditions at least for a while, but it might be worthwhile if Shah's going to keep getting himself into trouble. Hang in there, Jan. You're a retiree now and pretty soon you'll be able to let go of all these anxieties and start worrying about your golf game (or whatever) .

Oh,my. I posted on the other thread before seeing this. Poor Shah! So sorry you are both going through more. And a move on to of it. If I could, I'd be there to help out. From here, I send good vibes, offer good thoughts and prayers, and whatever else I can think of to send goodness your way.

Shah doesn't pay any more attention to what I say than anyone else does-- I told him to stay away from the vet's office. Sorry to heart hat he had to go back, but it sounds like he'll be good as new in no time. Houses almost always end up costing more than expected. I'm sure you'll be happy to be able to get settled in.

No Biteybird - no relaxation. That's no good! I'm sure when this is over you'll be able to look back and maybe smile, but at the moment I guess all you can do is grit your teeth and try to get through it one day at a time. I know what you mean about house things costing more than they should...we just had to replace our ducted heating, then a couple of other things stopped working too, straight afterwards. It's weird how things that are supposed to be simple and straightforward never are! Poor Shah; I wish he would learn, but it seems he's got a knack for getting himself into hot water. Maybe he likes the fuss he gets at the Vet (although I'm sure you fuss over him a lot more).

Shah is not allowed to come home until tomorrow afternoon now. I am pleased as I am not stressing about him being in the smaller cage (until we move on Thursday and he gets his big cage back). Also the house behind us is being pulled down so he would be freaking out about the noise. It is going to be one hell of a week for him.

Bugger bird... Here's looking forward to Thursday for both of you. At least the hard bit(s) will be over by then, hopefully.

He's home and as cranky as hell. Yelled all the way home - only takes 15 minutes. Lord knows how he will cope with 3 hours in the car and then a new house on Thursday.

Maybe he'll give up after an hour or so. Don't hold your breath!

No Biteybird, he doesn't give up - he will scream for the full 3 hours if he feels like it

Sheesh! Glad to hear Shah is back and all is well... what a little stinker! Good luck transitioning him to a house... I'm interested to hear how it goes, as we often talk of moving to a house from our apartment and transitioning Cupcake is a topic of great anxiety.

Wow... I have been away for a week or so... and boy Jan... you sure are going through a lot. I am very happy that Shah got her little belly fixed and sorry about the stress you feel. It will soon start to slow down and hopefully your house won't be too much more expensive. Wishing you only the best.
