Oh boy, Shah's current cage is too big to fit in the back of my car when we move so I have to put it on the truck tomorrow. As a result I have had to put him in a smaller cage (which will fit in the back of my car). He is not at all happy and is sulking in his happy hutch. I feel terrible about it but there is nothing I can do. Hopefully, he will adjust fairly quickly - I mean to say that he was 10 days at the vet in a cage that didn't have a happy hutch and wasn't covered at night so this one should be better - just smaller. But then these little green devils never appreciate what we do for them

Good luck with the move - to both of you! I've moved 4 times in the last 3 years. Ugh! Thought I was done. Now I'm helping my daughter move. But I know I'm here to stay- finally own instead of rent. Once your all settled I'm sure Shah will forgive you.

Jan... what a meanie you are... shame on you... lol... just teasing. Shah is going to be extremely happy once things settle down. You think adjusting to a smaller cage is a big deal for her... wait until she sees your new place. SQUAWWWWK!!!! Get your ear plugs ready.... lol...

I am moving the large furniture and bulk of stuff today. We don't make the final move for about 2 weeks. He is not happy - sitting in his happy hutch and sulking. Not eating. Calling me Monkey Breath every time he sees me. I wont be home until late tonight so expect him and the dog to be in really bad moods.

Nobody can sulk like a Quaker. He'll get over it eventually.

Oh dear, poor Shah! He will get over it. They really can sulk like nothing on Earth! I'm fairly certain Maya thinks she's turned the classic sulk into a kind of performance artwork. He'll recover. xxx

I have sympathy for both of you, Jan. You know how it feels when events spiral out of your control. I get crabby, too.

I suppose Shah will be grumpy for a while, but will (eventually) forgive you, once he's back in his big cage and settles in at your new home. The only time I've moved with a parrot, it was with George the YCA, who loved being in his little travel cage, small as it was. Once he was in it he hated to come out, because he knew he'd be staying home and his travel and adventures were over for a while.

I had to take his happy hutch out tonight as he has been eating it - must have started sometime today. I know it is due to the stress of a new cage plus me moving a lot of stuff out of the room. I have also been very anxious over the last 3 weeks and he would have picked that up. Now I am stressing that as he has eaten part of the hutch, it may stuff up his insides again He is now really not happy at all seeing as there is no happy hutch for him to go into, however, the vet didn't have one in his cage so he will just have to put on his big boy pants and suck it up!!!

awww... poor Shah... suck it up... geezzz... she is just a little birdy... she doesn't know what to do. Don't worry Jan... Shah will adjust soon enough. Try not to let the stress get to you... once you settle in... it will all be worth it.

I will be taking Shah back to the vet in case any of the hutch has lodged inside him. A complete waste of time and money but I move next week so would prefer to get the vet to check him over before I leave - that way my mind will be clear. He hates the new cage but he hasn't got much longer in it - should imagine he will be very pleased to see his "old" cage when we move.

Casey cant have anything soft for the same reason, I had to take all her rope perches out as she was ingesting them. Lucky for her she threw it all up. I hope Shah is fine.

Wow... yet I was told by a vet that these birds would not swallow these things but only chew them up. Learn something new every day.

Let us know how Shah is doing. I found myself thinking about him at work yesterday and hoping all is well. He's already been through so much. And with the move, he doesn't need a set back.
