Maya is officially a year old today! We will be having hatchday celebrations this evening with some new perches and toys to rearrange her cage, and some special birdie bread and cakes. We are looking forward to the many years together to come, and know that her teenage years may be challenging, but we are excited for the adventures ahead.

Happy day, Maya! It seems like only yesterday she was a mere slip of a bird.

Thanks everyone! Maya enjoyed her birdie cakes but her perches are waiting at the post office for me to collect tomorrow. Currently, we are curled up on the sofa watching netflix and drinking tea (well, I'm drinking tea, Maya is sticking to water!) Although she's a year old, I haven't had her for a year yet. Her 'gotcha' day is November 1st as that's when I brought her home, but the breeder gave me her date of hatching, so I know it's July 15th. We went out for another walk today in her little birdie vest. She's still not 100% confident with it, but she is slowly getting used to it and beginning to leave it alone for longer periods of time. I'm very proud of her and how well she is coming along. Although we are beginning to see the teenage behaviour, she is still a very well adjusted little birdie and I'm confident that the continued socialisation, the training and the strict diet will help her to emerge from puberty as a very sweet and happy little girlie. Thanks everyone for all your guidance and reassurance in your responses to my mad, anxiety-ridden posts panicking about her. It's so lovely to know that I always have a safe place to come if I'm concerned, even if I have inadvertently done something wrong, I can come to this forum to get good, solid advice without judgement. This community is just what all parrot owners should have and I'm really, really glad I've found it. It's so lovely how much you love your little birdies, both Quakers and other species, and I completely appreciate that because I love Maya just the same. Currently she is chirping away and attacking the bell toy on her playstand. I'm getting a running commentary of her progress One year old, Maya! Well done!
