Hello, everyone. I am new to here. Thanks to your forum, which I have read with great interest while deciding which kind of bird to get, I decided on a blue quaker. Ducky is weaned and coming home this weekend. DNA sexed a male. I can't wait to go pick him up. It's over a 2 hour drive one way, but I drove 3 hours to get my dog. Ha! I am not new to birds. I had a macaw for 16 years. I miss her, but it was in her best interest to stay with my ex when we split as she was more bonded to him and my adult daughter, who lives near him and sees her regularly, than to me. But, you know, I miss being pinched on a regular basis. Lol.

Ducky is a great Quaker name. I'm sure the pinch you'll eventually get from Ducky will be nothing like one from a macaw, but you'll still know you've been pinched.

Welcome to the forum. Ducky is a sweet name but for my Quaker... I would have called him "Chicken" lol... or Piggy... but alas his name is Oscar and he only pays attention to his name when there is food involved... lol.

Cupcake is called variations on "chicken" constantly. She might as well be a chicken.

Ducky is home! My word, has he surprised me! Checking out his cage, nibbling food, already trying to talk, knows step up. I left the cage door out and he took a leap and climbed on my foot, looking up at me like, well? Can I come up there with you? He's 2 months old today. The breeder said he was one of the sweetest in the group. He tries to say step up and yumyum, because the breeder said that to him. I guess this settling in thing won't be tough for him.

That's great! It sounds like the breeder tries to socialise the babies - makes it easier for you. When we got Bonnie she knew what "step up" meant, too, also "no". I sense many Ducky stories are on the way...

Sounds like things are off to a good start-- and Ducky certainly has lots of personality.

That is absolutely wonderful. I hope things continue on such a positive note. Get ready to be a slave... lol.

"Get ready"...? Seems like that's already established, to me. We really ought to write some of the chapters of the Human Slave Training Manual down, or at least the equivalent version of the Ten (Quaker) Commandments. After all, we're all slaves here together!
