Hi Brandon & thanks for the invitation. I'll have a look at your site. Please feel free to contribute to this forum, as there is a general pet bird discussion section. As well as our quaker, Bonnie, we have a pair of plum-headed parrots (plus 4 of their babies), one cockatiel (his girlfriend died a couple of weeks ago), some Bourke's parrots and a pair of princess parrots. These are all in outdoor aviaries and doing well. Welcome to the forum.

Good luck with your forum, Brandon. Always room for another site dedicated to improving the lives of companion parrots. I hope Avian Jungle will prove to be as positive and helpful as this forum is. People have strong opinions, but no one tries to shut anyone else down, and there's no flaming. No one tries to dominate, and there are no stupid questions, ever. I don't know how the owners were able to establish that kind of environment, and it doesn't hurt that it's a small forum, but it's a breath of fresh air compared to some of them out there.

Yeah ive left lots of forums because of the way people were being treated so I made my own Facebook group Avian Jungle and now a Forum and I educated myself over the last 3 years.

Ive also been on a Facebook group and all they were doing was posting pics and videos and talking about breeding and not really answering peoples questions or knowing the answer themselves.

Welcome to the Forum! Plum-headed Parakeets are one type of parrot that I'm not too familiar with. Have only seen one in person once, in a pet store, more than 30 years ago. They don't seem to be too common here in upstate New York. Like you, I have a Grey (along with my QP Ralph); she came to live with me about two months ago.

Plum-heads are certainly beautiful and colorful. I'm sure we'll all want to hear more about yours. It's always interesting to learn about less familiar and less common types of parrots.

I have one male (the father of the 4 babies), but I don't know yet what gender the babies are, as I understand they only get their full colours after their first moult. I could be wrong though... At the moment the 4 babies just look like females (with a silver head) and they're about 4 months old from memory. Good luck with getting moderators - if I weren't so busy and a bit more computer savvy I might have had a go! That plum-headed parrot in your profile pic looks great. If you want to see my plum-headed parrots, there are a couple of photos I posted in the Photo Gallery section.

That's interesting...when my hubby bought the pair of plum-heads the shop guy said any male offspring would get the red wing markings before their heads change colour, and quite quickly. We'll see how long the babies take to get their colours - bets, anyone? Oh, I forgot to say that we also have about 15 canaries, which are in the same aviary as the cockatiel, Bourke's and Plum-heads. They seem to get along OK, but there's a definite pecking order - Plum-heads are number 1! Followed by the cockatiel, then the Bourke's and finally the canaries, which are at the bottom of the order. The princess parrots have their own aviary, but I suspect they would be up there with the pllum-heads as far as dominance goes. In your profile pic it looks like your plum-head has a harness/tether on? Is it a flightsuit?

My Plum head lives with my Cockatiels in the bird room. All them have flight suits and the Aviator harness.

All them have flight suits and the Aviator harness. You are doing very well to have trained your birds to accept these. With quakers, there are many Forum members who have found it near impossible to train them to accept the Aviator harness, but I remain hopeful about the flightsuit - I am ordering a replacement one and will try to train Bonnie to accept it. I really look forward to her being able to come on walks safely with us, sitting on a shoulder.
