Sugar was 2 when we adopted her 2 years ago. She is very cage aggressive and afraid of hands. I finally got it through my husband's head than you can not train a bird the way you do a dog. So he has been taking time to talk to her and make her comfortable with him near her cage. He can now change her food dish without her attacking him. We can both open and close her cage and she does not try to bite us.
When I got home from work in the afternoon, I opened her cage. She goes in and out but stays very near her cage. Just now, I was on my computer in my bed and I heard the flutter of wings. She landed on my pillow and climbed onto my chest to be petted. She is now on my shoulder grooming my hair.
Now if we can just get Sugar and Sassy (our other quaker) to get along, things would be perfect.

Hi Sherri and welcome! I have 2 quakers who are very fond of each other! Loki the one we got 2nd is also afraid of hands. I have persisted and he is no just ok to step onto my hands but it has taken some time (not 2 years though!!!!!).
Sounds like progress for you now though! Well done!

That's great, Sherri, well done to you and Sugar! I'm sure the rest will come in time. Oh & my husband just said "only a flutter of wings? No squawking?" - Our Bonnie emits a loud squawk with each beat of her wings when she is flying.

Sugar while quite noisy when in her cage is quiet when out. Sassy on the other hand is like Bonnie. Oh yeah, and Sugar will only talk to us at night after the lights are turned off. You can hear her talking, coughing, laughing when you are out of the room.

Hi Sherri... It is great to hear that Sugar is coming around and being more friendly. She is like my Oscar who only wants to talk when he thinks we are not around. Lately though he will talk if he is in the kitchen and I am in the living room. He can see me but he turns his back and starts talking. I just love to hear his voice.

That's a big step forward for Sugar. Patience is often rewarded when building a bond with a parrot.

Like Sugar, Bonnie 'plays possum' too, regarding talking...she does it mostly when we're out of the room, along with laughing noises and cute whistles.
