I am a brand new quaker mom. I just got a 2-3 year old female who is not tame in the least, but does like to sit next to me in her cage. I do have 4 other birds. 2 Cockatiels and 2 parrotlets. One of the cockatiels is still being handfed. I have always loved quakers but never found one that called to me. Justice has been in the pet store since at least April, I would go in to see her and she would come down and talk to me for a while. She will try to rip my finger off, but I respect that. I have warned my kids she is not like the parrotlets or the cockatiels, no putting fingers near her. Any advice is welcome.

So I have gotten Justice out of her cage and she is happily sitting on my shoulder now. She will step up, just have to get her away from her cage. She is really happy sitting on me right now.

Welcome to the Forum! It sounds like you're beginning to make some progress already. If Justice likes having you sit by her cage, that's a good place to start. Sit with her and talk to her a lot-- read to her and even sing to her if you want. You might offer her a treat occasionally too. Sometimes it does work much better to get the parrot away from his/her cage to work on step-up training and other things, so you're taking a good approach there too. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask them. There are some helpful articles here on the companion site, and the old version of the Quaker Parrot Forum is still available for browsing too; there's lots of good advice and helpful hints in the posts over there.
