Hi everyone, we are brand new to this site and have found it helpful in answering all our Quaker questions. I will be moving to CA, where Qs are illegal, and I refuse to leave our 1 year old quaker behind. Has anyone done this before? It's beginning to stress me, and although I know possibilities of actually being stopped and searched are low, I'd like anyone's prior successful experiences. Thank you so much in advance!
I could probably pass him off as a blue crowned conure...

I don't have a good answer for you, but I'm also very interested to read anyone's experience with this. I recently considered moving from Texas to Wyoming, where they are also illegal. I wasn't so concerned about being able to smuggle Peppy in, but I worried about being able to get vet care without being reported.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting vet care once you are IN the state, as vets (in my experiences) have always put animal safety and care as priority. I've read from other posts that no one really checks and you could easily hide him in the trunk, but in the case you are caught, it would be plenty of fines and even confiscation. It seems like the best thing to do is have papers ready saying he is an XXX race of a parrot - I highly doubt people at border control can tell the difference. But of course I would love to have a real story from someone who's done it

I sent an email to a vet in California several years ago, asking if vets are required to report owners who bring a Quaker in for care. He said no, they're not required to and he personally would treat a Quaker. Say he's a Gray-Cheeked Parakeet if they ask.

I've heard people say their quaker is a "Grey Breasted Parakeet"

Just remember that if they do catch you with him and do confiscate him, he will be euthanized.
