Heavens, you will need to watch what you say if she is picking up things so quickly. I really hope she gets to stay with you.

They choose things they like the sound and rhythm of. Rocky is working on something that I can't understand yet, but he's quite pleased with himself, whatever it is. Meanwhile, all my efforts to cajole him into saying "Rocky Too" or "Mommy loves Rocky" or "pretty boy" are absolutely futile. The number of syllables and inflection in his new thing don't match any of those. Watch it be something I wish he hadn't heard. LOL

I'm waiting for Scooter to imitate one of the many annoying local television commercials, or the loud argument my new downstairs neighbors had the other morning about where to put their sofa (they said some pretty nasty things to each other ). While I'm home, I keep up a running monologue, talking to two parrots who mostly respond with squeaks, squawks and the occasional beep. So Scooter may decide to say "I'm going to start dinner now," or something of the sort. I wonder if she and Ralph talk to each other when I'm out.

I'll bet they do. My starling repeats things she can hear the parrots say through their shared wall, and has also learned to imitate Rocky's scream (at considerably lower volume). Benjy the budgie can say "peekaboo" and "thank you" and "Jade a good girl" just like the Quakers can. They chatter even if no human is available to be the audience.

Here's a new photo of Scooter. She tends to turn her back on the camera, but this time, she stared right into it.

Wow, just look at that beak. I bet she could do some damage if she really wanted to. She's a pretty girl!

I was told that Scooter is a biter, but she's only bitten me once, and that was accidental. She was trying to grab the paper towel I was using to wipe down her cage and caught my finger instead. I got the full impact of her upper beak, and it was like getting jabbed with a sharp needle. When she's had enough scritches, she doesn't bite (as I was told she would)-- she just pushes my finger away. Today Scooter got very friendly with the new toy I gave her last week. Not quite the use I had in mind for that toy, but then spring is in the air. Ralph has been getting reacquainted with his old friend the rope perch too.

Lol, all Caseys action happens under the cover before she calls good morning... She likes her privacy!

Since Scooter has been here a month, I decided to end quarantine and bring the two parrots together. Both Ralph and Scooter seem to be happy with the new arrangement.

Now they can put a face to the sounds! Should be fun watching them getting to know each other from across the cages!

They do seem to like being able to see each other close up, instead of from way across the room into the hallway. They've been squeaking and squawking back and forth a lot, and untying their strings and chewing on them. Today, they both had a bath-- Ralph's usual thorough soaking, and a little bit wetter misting for Scooter. I think she's making a game of it: when I spray over her, she backs away. When I stop, she comes to the front of her cage and flutters her wings until I spray over her again. Her feathers are already beginning to look a little better.

I do hope Ralph is living up to his Gentleman Quaker reputation and being helpful and genteel with Scooter.

Ralph is being a gentleman. He looks over at Scooter and squawks-- she comes over to the side of her cage and squeaks back. They carry on these little dialogues all day long. When Ralph comes out to play, we stop by Scooter's cage so he can squawk a hello to her and he can check up on what she's doing. I've invited Scooter out, but she still isn't ready for any out-of-cage adventures.
