Hi Everyone,
So I have just noticed Norman is getting what I think are pin feathers (from hours of research haha). They are on the back of his head and neck. I have read this is pretty common as they can't reach there, it also mentioned I should help with pin feathers? But then I also read that if done incorrectly, the bird can bleed a lot and it can cause serious harm... so my question is: how do you deal with pin feathers? Do you help and if so how?
Thanks guys!

I just gently roll the pin feathers between my fingers and it loosens and falls off, if you touch one that isn't ready Norman will tell you to stop.

Shah's head is full of them. I do what Caseysmom does. Shah also lets me know if there is one he doesn't want me to touch. It is a very relaxing exercise to sit watching tv and loosening pin feathers.

The others are spot on. Bonnie has these pin feathers too. She won't let me roll them between my fingers (I will get a bite or at least a feisty nip if I try), but she will put her head down for scratches and I just try not to scratch too hard against the direction the quill/feather is lying. Bonnie has had these pin feathers for at least 2 months now. I think it's due to our weather constantly changing from hot to cold and back.

I took your advice everyone and tried rolling them.... oh my goodness Norman loved it! We did it for about half an hour, it's the most cuddly he has ever been, he even started to fall asleep it felt so good!! He is turning into quite a cuddle pot!
I can't believe I have only had Norman for three weeks, he is just so gorgeous!

It is a very relaxing exercise to sit watching tv and loosening pin feathers. It is oddly relaxing. Yoshi hasn't had any in a while, but I'm expecting him to molt soon, based on everything I've read on the topic.

Skye had heaps and I did what the others suggested. He let me do some but of course not all... Then we got Loki.... Pin feathers all gone Mind you he was picky for a while with letting Loki do it too... Must have been the not ready ones I guess.. I was really worried as I had no idea how I was going to get rid of them all. There was just so many of them! He'd only let me do a couple at a time!!

Cupcake is very picky about how her pin feathers are addressed-- if you so much as breathe on them the wrong way she gets fussy with a quickness. But when you get it right she is very happy. Extremely cute.

Clyde will not let me touch his at all. Rocky doesn't mind in the least, but gets tired of it after awhile. So I stop until he's in the mood again. Occasionally, Johnny will let me or even ask me to work on his, but that's really rare. And nobody else will allow me to even consider such a thing. LOL

Oscar missed me a lot as I was away for a 5 days.... Right now he is putting his head in my hand so that I can give him a little scratch... soooo sweet. He has pin feathers... but not too many. As long as I do it "right" he loves the petting.
