Hi Everyone,
Norman and I are getting along so well. He is such a gentle and sweet little birdy and we are starting to build a really trusting relationship.
He has started sitting on my head a lot though! He likes to sit on his cage and on my shoulder and we are starting to do 'step up' training, but he just loves to sit on my head and preen my hair haha is this normal? Ha ha

Yes, this is normal! He just loves you. It depends on his behaviour as whether you decide the head-sitting is a privilege or not (if he gets aggressive I'd keep him lower down), but I wouldn't worry too much if he's not doing anything bad. Cute little Norman!

That's good to know. I was a bit worried he was trying to be dominant but he isn't acting that way at all upon reflection. He is so funny trying to preen my hair, I now have to be super careful what hair products I use! I am so happy to have Norman in my family

You may find yourself uh... needing to wash your hair more often... I'm not a huge fan of head sitting for that reason, as well as the hair products... I use gel fairly liberally so I really prefer that Cupcake does not preen my hair... It's a special health-food-store gel that I use just to be safe, but still, it's not food and I doubt little birdie bodies should be ingesting it in any quantity.

I've never had a bird who wanted to be a hat, though it sounds common enough. I think I'd rather not be pooped on up there.

Oh, it comes out easily. Just get a wet washcloth and clean it up. I have seven birds and poop in the hair is a regular occurrence in my life. LOL They all like to sit on my head, except Rocky 'Too, and I think he'd like to try it, except he's so big and heavy now (yay! he's gained weight!) that it wouldn't be much fun for me.

When I first got Oscar he loved to be on top of my head and pulling out my hairs. Got to the point I had to cover my head with a towel so he would leave it alone. But here we are 5 years later and he does not like my hair at all. If he gets one hair on his foot he will immediately try to get away from me. This is a good thing for me... because when he preens my face too much... all I need to do is pull my hair forward over my shoulders and he will stop.

Hahaha, Maya has moments where she wants to sit on my head too. I try to discourage it for head poop reasons (I have really long hair!) but otherwise, I don't mind and she's never aggressive
