Hi. So I'm a little concerned about Skye. He just turned 2. He's healthy..active and talks up a storm, but seems small compared to my neighbor's Quaker. He weighs 97 grams. His keel bone is not prominent. He's not too keen on treats, but will share toast with me. I offered him peanut butter the other day, which he ignored.
Is his weight ok?

As far as I can see, it is on the lower end of average for a Quaker, but within the normal range. The best thing you can do is to weigh him frequently and watch for any significant changes. If he's ever seen a vet, you could also check with them to see what his weight was, to use as a baseline.

I've also heard that the color mutations are normally smaller and weigh less than the good ole greenies I have a good old greenie. When I first adopted Mr P, he weighed 102 grams. Since introducing birdie bread (packed with veggies) and whole grains (quinoa, bulgar wheat, barley) to his diet, he has steadily gained weight, he was 108 grams last week. Funny how we worry about stuff, I am worried he is getting FAT! LOL

Yes, Skye is a Blue. He did see the vet when he broke his leg, in January. I have his records, and at that time he weighed 77 grams, so it seems he's doing well...he's just a little guy.
Thanks for your replies!

I suspect that Skye is simply a smaller Quaker, much like my QP Ralph. They do come in a range of sizes-- I once saw a QP in a pet store who was nearly twice Ralph's size.

When we got Bonnie at 8 weeks old she weighed 89 grams. Now, at 8 months, she weighs 100 grams or so (our scale only shows increments of 5 grams), which has been the case for about 4 months. I've read that blue quakers are smaller than the greens. I don't think she'll get any heavier.

She is a gorgeous colour. I wonder if the yellow ones are generally smaller than blues or greens...? If she seems happy and has been vet-checked I wouldn't worry too much. She looks very cute in your photo!

Wow... a gorgeous yellow one. I have not seen that for a long time. I have to get myself a scale to weigh Oscar. He is for sure a fatty. Guess he eats too much spaghetti.

Mine is yellow quaker and he/she weights 79 g and that worries me(( She is beautiful. If she will let you feel around her keel, you can get an idea if she is underweight. You should be able to feel muscle on either side and the keel should not be terribly prominent. It's kind of hard to tell until you know what they should feel like, but you might try it. Weigh her with a gram scale on a regular basis, doing it the same time and under the same circumstances. After the first poop and before breakfast is ideal, but most importantly, just be consistent. It will change some, but watch for changes in one direction only. If she hasn't had a vet check, it's probably a good time for one.

Can anyone suggest a place online where they have purchased a good scale? None available in my little town.

She looks very cute in your photo! I held a yellow one once and it was really tiny. I'll bet the 79g weight is normal for this little one, but can't hurt to take to a vet if you haven't...

I would kill to even see a yellow quaker in person, much less hold one!!
