Sexing

Hello again. This time my question is ..... have any of you used the place where you pull a tail feather and mail it for sexing your Quaker?

If so, how did it go for the bird? I'm hesitant because I don't want to be the mean guy but the vet clips the nail short to make it bleed and that seems like it would take longer to heal.
