Hi everyone, We have now had Skye for a little over 2 months. As you'll remember I originally wanted to get Loki but my hubby and son convinced me to get Skye. So I did and he's been absolutely wonderful so far! I just couldn't get that original Quaker out of my head so I kept going back to visit him. Well I just couldn't resist.... I got him too..... Meet Loki. Not sure if anyone knows but Loki is the name of the Norse God of mischief (or something like that)! Anyway I know everyone had lots of concerns with having 2 Quakers, but I just couldn't resist him Oh so Skye is on the left and Loki is on the right

Welcome to Loki! Are you going to tell them apart once Loki gets used to everything? Now lots of fun begins!

Actually it is already hard to tell them apart! If I look carefully I can tell. Skye at some stage before we got him must have had a little nip or something with one of the claws on his foot so there is a little white ring around the long claw at the front. When I was deciding I asked the shop owner to mark Loki somehow so we could remember which one he was and he promptly chopped the end off his tail! (idiot). Anyway it is easy of course to tell them apart now. Also we didn't clip Skye's wings at all. But when they are out together they fly around like crazy and of course were more interested in each other, so we chopped Loki's wings. I know it is an individual thing and I don't think I'll do it again, but Loki is a couple of months older than what Skye was when we got him (so they are now both 5 months old) and he's been much harder to catch! So right now they are very easy to tell apart!
They have separate cages but seem to really like each other of course. Skye is the big bully even though Loki is physically bigger than Skye. I may well end up regretting my decision (not that that means I will change my mind because they are my birds and I'll never give them away). But of course I am worried they'll like each other more than us! Skye is the pushy one. He just follows Loki everywhere and doesn't leave him alone at all. I assumed it would be the other way around as Skye has been with us for over 2 months so has formed a bond with us. But right now he is being really naughty and won't leave Loki alone...
Anyway what's done is done I have to work it out now lol!

Hey, congratulations, that's very exciting! I have to say I was wondering if you would go back and get your 'original' baby. Maybe you could buy a parrot ring & get a vet to put it on one of the birds' legs. Bonnie has a metal ring on a leg and it doesn't worry her. I'm glad Loki has a good home!

Thanks Biteybird! That's a great idea! I guess it's like twins if you're around them enough you can pick something out about them that helps pick them apart lol!

Congratulations on the arrival of Loki. And so begins MBS (multiple bird syndrome).

I would have done the same, Angela. It sounds about right that Skye is kind of dominating things now. He's in his own element, and Loki is unsure. That could change as he gets more comfortable. I would think that rediscovering a sibling could be a joyous event for both of them.

Thanks Jan, yes I think I'll need therapy as I reckon it might become an addiction Thanks Easttex. We've had Loki a week tomorrow. He's still VERY nervous around us which is understandable. Skye is funny because he's all over Loki and won't leave him alone. Yet last night (and tonight) whenever I left the room he'd scream for me and follow me!! Poor little fickle bugger doesn't know who he wants lol! He was much better tonight again. Seemed to be fine with leaving Loki alone for a bit. I'll catch Loki and pop him on my shoulder for a bit. Later in the evening he kinda half flew/landed on the kitchen bench and Skye was in the shower with Scott so he was looking to go into the bathroom. So I went over to the bench and bent over and he jumped right on my shoulder!!! So I think he's starting to feel ok, but of course still very nervous Their personalities are so different!! I knew they would be different, but didn't realise how different they would be lol... Bit silly of me of course

Didn't I tell you that Loki chose you and eventually would be going home with you? A warm welcome to Loki, whose namesake I've run across in a few crossword puzzles.

Yes Gary you most certainly did I just wanted to thank everyone for their support... Honestly I was a little worried about telling you cause I thought everyone would think I've made a mistake getting 2 Quakers!!

Congrats! Sorry, I'm a bit late to the party here as I am currently on vacation, but this is quite exciting! I can't wait to hear how things develop. We almost did the same thing around the 1.5 year mark of having Cupcake, and I still wonder what would have happened to this day... Now we can live vicariously through your family

Thanks Aaron! Things are going fine I think!! Skye has settled a bit... Loki is learning to trust more. He doesn't know step up at all (where as Skye started doing this from about day 2)!! As I said I trimmed his wings so he is unable to fly away, but geez can that little bugger run lol! He is looking more to get on my shoulder (I guess as a means of getting around lol). So if he jumps off my shoulder on to the kitchen table, after a little bit if I lean over and put my shoulder back to the table he will climb back on. Today for the first time I put my shoulder up to the top of his cage (he has like a play area on the top of his cage) he jumped straight onto my shoulder! Was lovely! Having said that if I put my hand anywhere near him he runs in the opposite direction lol! So I feel we are making progress but just letting him take his time He hasn't found his voice yet so is very quiet compared to Skye lol! I'm sure he'll figure it out though! He is a way messier eater that Skye too! As I said before I knew they would be different, but just didn't realise how different lol!! Silly me

A little late but congrats of getting Loki! I think the name fits the mischievous quaker well. Props to you getting a second quaker, one can be hard enough sometimes I couldn't imagine having two.
