Shah is pretty much back to normal. The culture was clear and the results of the blood test, apart from protein and calcium, were back to normal. He has been put on a tablespoon of scrambled egg (cooked in water) twice a week and I just need to get him and the cockatiels out in the sun more often. I cant believe he is doing so well. All up both Pippin and Shah have cost Aus$10,000. Pips goes back in 2 months and Shah doesn't have to see for the vet for 6 months. I feel on top of the world and can hardly wait to go home to give that little guy a big kiss and cuddle

Jan, that's great. That must be such a great feeling (perhaps except for your wallet--but worth it of course). Very happy for both you and Shah!!

Julianna, I am also shocked at the price but this vet really knows what he is talking about and can diagnose a bird just by looking at it. The other bird vet I took Shah to only fixed the problem - he didn't look at what caused the problem. Shah has not mutilated since taking him to the expensive vet and that has to be priceless in itself. Plus I now have my little boy back - full of cuddles, kisses and chatter which is something I didn't think I would ever see again. I love hanging out with him these days - even though he can be a bit grumpy at times as he is moulting. But the biting has stopped

I had forgotten about Shah mutilating. Stopping that alone is probably worth $10K. Your happiness comes through the bits and bytes and lights up my iPad!

Great news about Shah! Though I'm NOT shocked at the price, sadly...welcome to Australia, where we pay WAY more than the rest of the world. But it's great that you found an avian vet worth his salt, Jan.
