You may remember I spoke about how Oscar is doing the thing with his throat ... as if to feed me.... but it lasts way too long. He had gotten a little better for a few days but today was a bad day. He sat for over an hour regurgitating .... and I think something is wrong.
We made an appointment with the Vet who is located almost 4 hours away from me but we must go. The earliest we can get in is next Thurs. the 17th however, we did ask them to call us if there is any cancellations that we could fill. We hope to drive there and back in one day.
This will Oscar's first vet visit and he is now 7 years old. I know it is over due... please don't beat me up over that.
Other than him doing this strange thing.... he is very well. Talks, and has his baths... eats good... poops good... no other symptoms but I have this feeling he isn't doing it on purpose.
I am already nervous.... but many more days to wait yet.

Good luck for the vet visit - hope you can get in earlier than the 17th. Poor Oscar! From what you've described it is worth going with your gut instinct and getting him checked out. Try not to worry too much...we'll all be thinking of you.

Good luck! Poor little Oscar! Hopefully they can get you in sooner than the 17th. It's good that you're taking him in.
I know I said this already, but you might still want to look into putting some apple cider vinegar in his water in the meantime... It has antibiotic properties that might keep things under control while you are waiting for your appointment. Of course this all depends on his willingness to drink the water in the short-term, which may be an issue. But it might be worth a shot.

Hey Julianna, don't get stressed out about his visit. He will be fine. I told my vet that I was thinking of moving in as I spend so much time there - Pippin has been for the last 3 Saturdays but doesn't need to see the vet for 2 months. Shah goes back in a couple of weeks. You are doing the right thing in getting him checked out. It may be nothing - it may be something but you would have caught it early enough to fix it up. I don't think anyone on this forum would bash you up for not seeing a vet previously - if animals are in good health, then there really doesn't seem to be a need to see a vet. We all know our animals and can pick up when something is wrong - which is exactly what you have done. Hopefully they will get a cancellation and you can get in a bit earlier.

Wishing you the best of luck! As everyone has already said hope you get into the vet sooner than the 17th! I'm not the most patient of people, so I feel the wait would drive me crazy!!!

Thank you all for the best wishes... and yes Aaron... I am going to try the vinegar as well. Perhaps I will put a little then change the water after and see how that works. I started to prepare a travel cage for him as the last time I took him on a long trip, he sat on my finger all the way there and back and boy... did I ever get a cramp in my hand. This cage will fit on the console between the driver and me. I added his own toys and purchased bowls and a boing. I also got a thick piece of sponge to put under the cage. I was thinking that it might help soften the bumps on the road. That was one thing that bothered me on our last trip was that Oscar could not nap because the bumps in the road kept waking him up.
You can be sure I will let you know how it goes.

That little boy has you well trained - i.e. getting him a thick piece of sponge so the bumps in the round don't wake him up I have read such terrible stories about people abusing animals in the last 24 hours and then I read your post and it restores my faith in people who go above and beyond what they need to do for the animal(s) in their care. Oscar is one very lucky fid.

Hope Oscar is ok... Can you ask the vet questions on the phone? You don't think it could be a spring mating thing and he is regurgitating to you. it does sound like you are well prepared for your car ride.

Until the vet sees Oscar at least once they will not take questions on the phone or even watch the videos. Yes Caseysmom, it could be a spring mating thing but I have never seen it last as long as it currently is going. Yesterday he was doing this for hours in the morning... then nothing later. Thank you for the nice comment Jan.

Now, I didn't go to vet school, but if everything else is normal, you should be able relax a little. Of course take him in, but as I recall, this has been going on for a while, and it's a good sign if nothing else has changed. I say that, but I never can relax with Peppy's health, and you probably won't with Oscar.

So tomorrow morning is our big trip to the Vet. The weather does not look promising... rain and freezing rain and very windy... but we will drive slowly and be super careful. Oscar is still has good and bad days.
I am sure the trip will be worth it. I've written other questions down to ask the Vet as well... got to get my moneys worth lol.
Wish us luck and I will post the findings when I return.
