Casey has a climber on the top of her cage she seldom uses, so this morning I hid treats around it to get her exploring. She had fun finding things... I will have to convince her to go back up tomorrow.

I'll call her Hillary! (As in Edmond, not Clinton. ) Peppy is not a climber at all. When I got him, he was in a really crappy cage with a single skinny dowel perch, and I don't know if he spent all of his 21 years with that or not, but I think something affected his feet. He doesn't have a tight grip, anyway. Casey looks pretty satisfied up there!

Well I might not go that far, that's the thing she is prob more like peppy, I had to convince her to go up by showing her I was hiding treats. On the way down once she missed a tiny step and flew off the cage in a panic. She had that broken leg as a baby, and she never learned properly. I've kind of been lazy and let her just hang out on the top of the cage....so I've decided to make more of an effort to get her climbing and more sir Hillary like.

Those are great photos. Oscar is an awesome climber. Guess since he could not fly... there is no other way to get around so he had to learn fast and is great at it. He even does this little back flip.... he climb to the bottom of his cage ... hang there upside down.... then flip himself over to land on his feet. It was really cute to see him do that. I have gotten him a nice ladder now and he uses that to get to the floor. I guess gymnastics wasn't his cup of tea.

I just wanted to ask... are those pin feathers still on Casey? How long have they been there.... it just seems a long time to me. When Oscar gets pin feathers it is usually a couple of weeks before they are gone.

Yes she still has some pins on her head and I noticed yesterday, she lost a tail feather, it's been a long time since one of them has fallen... So she is in a moult. I am not sure how long a moult takes.

When Oscar goes through a moult it is usually about a month before it is over. When they loose feathers, they will loose one on each side almost at the same time. So if one tail feather fell off, you can be sure the matching one on the other side will fall soon. This is nature's way of helping them keep balance.
