Poutine fries have caught on this far south of the border-- they sell them (appropriately enough) at the arena during hockey games, and they're even available now at a few restaurants in upstate New York. Good stuff! I don't know anyone who eats fries with ranch dressing-- around here, it's usually tomato ketchup. One of my favorites from Up North is Canadian cheddar cheese; another is Canadian maple cookies. And, since my grandmother was from Canada, maybe I could have a legitimate claim to being Canadian, eh? Well, at least part Canadian. Visiting Australia is on my "bucket list" too-- but right now, I'd have to bring Ralph along as my traveling companion.

Ralph is more than welcome to stay at my place while you travel around Australia. Maybe he can teach Shah some gentleman manners

You can be an honorary Canadian Gary! .. Fly out of Toronto and Ralph is welcome to hang out in our house. Though the last big holiday we did Casey and finch stayed home and my daughter came over each day to hang out with her and get her out. She was happy and relaxed when we got home.
Yumm, cheddar cheese! Always some of that in the fridge. It's almost maple syrup time too! The other day I was in the grocery store, I saw tourists taking every maple cookie package off the shelf, their cart was over flowing! I think they were taking a whole suitcase back home!

When I lived in Belgium for a couple years, I briefly considered trying to pass as Canadian (Americans being so popular the world over ) but I figured I would put an "eh" in the wrong place or would slip up some other way. Lol, just throw it at the end of a sentence, that often works! I don't think we even realize we are saying it, lol! I can say I've been to Australia but it was only for two days, so that probably doesn't really count. It would be a neat country to explore. If you come to Australia on holiday, you would probably feel almost at home in Queensland, as many of them do the "eh"/"ay" at the end of a sentence. Maybe all us Forum members should create a worldwide quaker-sitting service for when us human slaves want to go overseas. My neighbours use a website called aussiehousesitters.com which they've used very successfully to look after their house and cats for a couple of weeks - we could create quakerparrotsitters.com or something….

Good idea Biteybird. I would love a quakerparrotsitter so I could at least go away for a weekend. I went to eat something tonight and he was so angry at me that he bit me on the bridge of the nose. Fortunately he didn't break the skin but it hurts like hell. Just when I think he may rival the Gentleman Quaker, he reverts to being a little thug

I've always enjoyed my visits to Canada, and have an appreciation for lots of things that come from Canada, like the ones I mentioned.

A Quaker sitting service would be so helpful! Thankfully I have my parents, so I basically have one, but I'd like more flexibility We often talk about traveling to Australia, and I'm sure it will happen eventually. We have some really good friends that are Aussies and they are constantly telling us we need to go.
