Hi Everyone, I know there aren't may Aussies here, but I was wondering if anyone in Australia knew of a good place to get accessories in Australia?? I'm looking to purchase a stand of some kind that Skye can hang out on from room to room. I think Beccilouise talked about wheeling Byron around like he's a king on his stand and it sounded like a great idea! LOL I know I can just look at eBay but just wondered if anyone knew of a particular shop in Australia that specialises in Bird 'accessories'. (Hubby thought it funny that I want to buy 'accessories' for Skye lol ) Thanks!

Sorry, I'm STILL looking...we appear to be quite backward here in parrot supplies. Jan might know more. I've only been able to find one brand of pellets (Vetafarm Mini) suitable for quakers. I suspect we may have to order from the US for most things; be prepared for huge postage costs.

Bugger! I googled 2 different brands of pellets and Roudybush which I found in Australia!!!! Of course he doesn't eat them yet cause the guy I bought him off only fed him seeds so I have the convert him lol! Also I looked at another brand and while they are in the USA the do have an agent in Australia (I just have to try remember what the other brand was lol)!!! But yes the accessories are the problem..... There really isn't much at all in Australia.

You could always build a stand for him. I did with just a piece of scrap wood as the base and screwed some bird safe tree branches to it. Or you can use pvc if you have it in a hardware store nearby. It's easy to do and much cheaper than buying one and you can have it exactly the right size for both your bird and the space you want to put it. I had bought one online and the branches are all spaced too far apart even though it's supposed to be for a small sized parrot.

That's a good idea Wsteinhoff. Hubby is pretty good with that kind of stuff. I'll have to get him onto it lol!
Thanks!

I actually used a trumpet stand (I used to play professionally), which had fold-out tripod legs. I got a thickish stick and attached it to the top. So, with a bit of imagination you can indeed create an effective stand.
Re the pellets: I remember someone (can't think who) ordered Harrison's brand on Amazon. I've been meaning to check that out for a while.

Stands are very expensive from what I saw when I was shopping for them. For under $10 I was able to build a large PVC stand for Yoshi. He was having trouble gripping the PVC, so I purchased some vet tape and wrapped it in that, now it's perfect. I built the top part in a rectangle shape so that there's two levels he can stand on, and I can hang toys from the top level. I also bought the materials for a shower perch (like this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002HBO6K?keywords=bird%20shower%20perch&qid=1454137509&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2 ). I haven't gotten around to making it yet, but it shouldn't take 10 minutes to do, and end up being a fraction of the cost of the ones on Amazon. I've also got some ideas for a large playstand made of wood and PVC that I'll likely tackle this spring.

You can get supplies from Parrot Rescue in Queensland. They charge postage but all the money they make goes towards the parrots. She has some that can never be rehomed and does an excellent job in caring for them. Most of the big pet shops have bird stands. They are expensive. I am lucky in Sydney as I have a choice of shops that have bird supplies plus there is a pet shop that is dedicated to birds - just cant think of the name at the moment. I purchased Shah's travel cage (which is a backpack with a cage in it) from one of the American pet shops. As to food, you can try Parrot Rescue but I found the pellets in this country are very limited.

I bought a shower perch for Shah years ago - they weren't very expensive then - don't know about now. He has never used it but I plan to set it up when I move houses later this year.

They are about $20 USD with what I've seen. I know bird supplies in general aren't usually cheap but to me for what is basically a few pieces of pvc with some suction cups they're expensive.

I just finished making mine, took all of 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the tile in my shower isn't very smooth and I don't think the suction cups are gonna work on it .

Angela, I just remembered that Nunawading Birds and Pets has lots of parrot accessories - I don't go there often because they only have 3 parking spots at the front (on busy Springvale Road) and it's hard to get in/out of. They also sell lots of parrots and other birds (but years ago my hubby saw an employee exhale cigarette smoke into a canary's face, so we weren't keen on that storeā¦it may be fine now).
The other place I have been to is Passion for Pets in Bulleen (www.passionforpets.com.au). This is actually the store where I saw my first quaker parrot (he was a blue one and was for sale for $899! He was eventually sold to a nice family and named 'Sam'). This store is a small one, but the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable - also the pets and birds seem well looked after and happy. But as far as accessories it doesn't have much; their other store in Cranbourne may be larger. The Bulleen store owns an aquarium and reptile store right next to their pet shop, which are nice to look through.

Thanks Biteybird I'll look into them!!! There is heaps even on eBay, so I can get some stuff off that. Of course all I have to do is show hubby a pic and I'm sure he'll be able to whip something up for me. I just thought the idea of a stand that rolls from room to room was a great idea. Of course at this stage he only wants to be on someone's shoulders or hands so might be a complete waste of time and money lol!
