Hi, Rescued a male (had him tested) Green Quaker from my husbands family member who passed away! He was not in a very good environment, while with his previous owner. But now he has been with us for over 10 years and is a spoiled rotten feather butt! His name is Johnnie! He is a talker when he feels like it ! He is a biter, only while in his kingdom (cage). Definitely has cage aggression! But we manage to get around that with a protective glove when removing food dishes etc. He loves apples, green & yellow squash, sweet potato's, white potato's, banana's, grapes, soy bean's, green beans, pasta, rice, corn on the cob, strawberries, cucumbers, nuts, "MAMMA'S" birdie bread. He is on Harrison high potency super fine pellets as well. He loves to chew paper, loves paper towel rolls & toilet paper rolls (no glue kind). He stuffs them all around his cage between the cage and perches, fills his nesting box with nesting paper, chew toys, and don't you dare go near it or else your flesh will be ...................ouch! NO BITE! It has been a long learning experience, episodes of chewing have happened (under his wings). But with a collar (unfortunately) we have gotten them to heals and collar free. But keep a close eye on him for recurrence! We unfortunately do not have an avian vet where we presently live . The closest one is 2 & 1/2 hrs away. But so far we have not needed to see him for any issues. So I guess I am doing a good job keeping him healthy & happy.

If you use Facebook you can upload photos/video from there or else you need to use PhotoBucket (free online storage website). I had trouble uploading a video from PhotoBucket, so I ended up creating a free YouTube account, putting it on there and pasting the link into my Forum post.
There are instructions that Dani (Forum 'boss') has made - see Forum main/home page at the top, the "How To" thread. Hope this helps & good luck...looking forward to seeing what you put on here!
EDIT: Look in the top 'Welcome' section, the 2nd link (the one beneath 'Introductions'); it's called 'Forum Guidelines...How To', then select 'How to Post a Photo'.

Hello Susan and welcome to the forum. Personally I would recommend you take him to the avian vet for a checkup. I also have no avian vet nearby and the closest is as far from me as yours is. When I had to take my quaker Bishop to the vet a few weeks ago I had no relationship with an avian vet so it took a week to get him seen by anyone. Bishop is 10 and has never been to a vet before. Luckily he was not sick it was an allergy but if he were sick, in that time it took to finally get him to the vet he may not have been alive anymore. With him never been to the vet before it also made it harder for the vet to tell how healthy Bishop was because he had never been for a checkup to give a baseline of how his specific blood and organs should look as healthy. Bishop was diagnosed as healthy but to be 100% sure of that I have to take him back to the vet in 6 months so the vet can do the rest of the testing and compare his vitals from this month and 6 months from now to get an idea of how he should look when he is healthy. So in my recent experience I'd recommend not waiting until a vet truly is needed and get him in for a checkup.
