Hey! I'm new to this forum and I am hoping to get some answers. My parrot, Rio, use to step up on my finger without any hesitation. However, here recently he doesn't seem interested. I'm not sure what is going on with him. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum! The first thing to consider with a sudden behavior change is the possibility of illness. Are there any other changes you've noticed? Is he eating, drinking, and pooping normally? The next thing I would look at is if or how I rewarded him when he used to step up. Was he getting a treat, a scratch, or at least some praise? Think of him doing what you want as his job. Most of us won't work for free for long. Another thing to consider is why you're asking him to step up. If it is usually for a return to cage, he probably won't like that for long, either. Some food for thought, anyway. It might help if you can provide more detail on him and the problem.  |
