Skye is sleeping like a baby on my shoulder at the moment. He makes this little chirp chirp sound. Not sure what it means but doesn't sound distress or angry when making this sound. We've heard the little growl too. So cute!

If the little growl is almost like a purr, I think that's contentment. Byron does it before sleep and when he's getting neck scritches or loads of attention! That is the cutest pic I have ever seen! and what a little beauty he is! Great name too!

He's so funny! Last night at dinner time we had him at the table with us on a little stand thing we bought. Well tonight we had visitors and I wasn't sure, so we left him in his cage (he'd been out heaps today as we had no work today). Well he let out a hell of a screech! He was none to happy about being locked away instead of being with us hahahah... I'll see if I can upload a little video of his little chirps

Sounds like Skye is settling in nicely so far. His little chirps are probably his way of making conversation in his own native language. Quakers are notorious jewel thieves, so you may want to consider removing your earrings when you're handling Skye-- or prepare to try to persuade him to give them back voluntarily after he steals them.

hahaah thanks Gary. Problem is they are EXTREMELY hard to get out!! Only time I ever take them out is for surgery lol!!! Will have to see how he goes I 'stepped up' straight away this morning while making his little chirping sound. I shared a little of my toast for breaky this morning and I got a few little 'purrs'. So I think he's feeling pretty ok with us

What a cutie! If the earrings don't come out then that probably isn't an issue. I actually have a piercing in each ear that does not come out, basically ever... they are basically little ball/loop earrings but the hole is a bit wider than your average earring, and Cupcake has absolutely no hope of getting them out. She plays with them but they generally do not pose any problems. Sometimes she accidentally nips my ear while playing with them, and that's the worst that ever really comes of it.

Angela's earrings look like a good size for a Quaker beak, though. The worst that could happen would be a ripped earlobe in her case. Probably never happen.

Yeah, I guess I actually have an advantage since my piercings don't have the thin little rod that goes through the piercing, which would be much easier to rip through an earlobe than mine. But that probably wouldn't happen.

You can always condition him not to touch them, Angela: maybe a little shoulder shake if he does try to beak it to teach him to leave it alone? It may not work, but it also may save you a torn ear!

Many years ago a friend of mine was wearing earrings and wanted to hold Shah. I warned her about the earrings but she knew better than me. You guessed it, he ripped one of those earrings right out of her ear. Never, ever trust quakers around jewellery. You may think you have them trained not to touch things, but they don't play by your rule book. They see it, they want it - no discussion.

I must agree with Jan. They are very quick to change the rules and I tried many times to get Oscar to leave my jewellery alone but now I have a box full of broken earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. He has his own jewellery but of course he prefers mine. It is sweet in the mornings though when I give him my ring and his will sit on my finger and nibble on that ring for 45 minutes. Keeps him quiet and busy.
