The flapping is generally a normal exercise sort of thing, but I agree, that's an alarm call. He seems mildly distressed. Not terribly so, but somewhat. Cupcake often seems to have some sort of extrasensory capabilities when it comes to knowing when people are nearby. She seems to know when people arrive in our apartment building long before they actually get to our unit. No idea how that works

Another thing that might get Ralph doing an alarm call is something he sees on television that he doesn't like. Anyone on TV wearing bright orange clothing will get an alarm call. A local car dealer who waves around a big red sign in his commercials gets an alarm call too.

Byron does that all the time. He does squeal when he does it, and it is quite loud, but it's not the same kind of tone as Yoshi seems to be doing. But Byron alarm calls when I watch David Attenborough because he doesn't like grizzly bears. His alarm calls are slightly different from Yoshi's scream as well though. He's doing it as I type because I'm watching War and Peace and they've just done a charge, so I've had to mute the TV. Maybe try changing your music and see if it alters the sound. If it doesn't, maybe he's just got a particularly grating quaker voice!
