Finally my photo worked! Anyway I went to the 'bird' shop today for another little look. They handed me this little blue quaker and he promptly went to sleep exactly where he is in the picture!! Then woke up about 10 minutes later proceeded to poop on my boob, then went back to sleep for another 20 or so minutes!!! He is so adorable!! I still haven't decided but now this cute little guy is making my decision hard hahaha! I absolutely understand they are not all like this all the time but geez he certainly melted my heart! Ang

Oh, he/she's cute! You can tell it's a baby as it's still growing into its tail! Do you know for sure he's a boy? Pooping on your boob - LOL, if you decide to get him/her that will probably never change unless you can be bothered with extensive poop training (some forum members have actually done this successfully & I'm filled with admiration for them). Sounds like you've almost decided...

Actually I asked the bird shop owner to mark him/her (he reckons a him but of course he can't really tell without DNA testing) so I could remember which one out of the 8 he was and he snipped the end of his tail off! He said we'll know for sure which one he was then! Yes the more time I spend just 'looking' at the damn bird shop, I think the more convinced I'm getting lol!
I told my husband to just take a photo of the bird so I wasn't smiling cause I didn't think I'd be in the damn picture! hahahaha
I can't believe he actually fell asleep on me twice in the exact same spot lol!

Oh and he actually gave a little squawk and had a little nip at the shop owner when he tried to take him off me to put him away as it was home time for the poor guy! LOL Thought that was cute too

Awwww that is wonderful Angela. This little guys can be so very affectionate and purr like a kitten. Other days ... well... you will see... lol. My QP loves to crawl under my shirt and look for any little imperfection in my skin and be sure to remove it... lol.
I do not allow my QP to sleep on me because I always seem to be disturbing him and getting up to do something. Welcome to the forum and as time goes on... I am sure you will have questions... and they are very welcome here.
Good luck.

Nothing against you Angela, but i can't believe they snipped pretty much his/her entire tail off. Thats gonna take months to molt out. Grrr.

Thanks Julianna and yes Obironkenobi I didn't think he should do it either (well after the fact) I asked him to mark him I thought he simply put a black dot on his foot or something (don't know if that's bad either), but instead he snipped his tail off. He only snipped the very end off, but I still didn't think it was right.... Thanks everyone again for your kind words. Truthfully I am still undecided. He's gorgeous and was so sweet. But then I read about the 'terrible two's and think bugger am I equipped to deal with that? Is my life going to be too busy so I can't control him?? I just don't know As everyone has said it's a long term commitment so not a decision to be taken lightly. How did everyone know they would be able to handle the terrible two's? It's so hard lol! Ang

No one is really 100% prepared the first time they get a parrot. It's frightening, and no matter how much research you do, you'll feel inadequate for a while. How did you know you could handle a child once he hit his teen years? You teach them and mold them as best you can, and by the time it hits, you have a level of comfort, not to mention unconditional love, that gets you through. I have immense respect for Barbara Heidenreich and her force-free animal training. This link talks a bit about the terrible twos: goodbirdinc.blogspot.com/2014/09/5-myths-about-parrot-behavior.html

Thanks Easttex. That really does make sense. I have been through 1 teenager (he's now 22). He was a dream child though! He moved out a year ago when he bought his first home. Teenage years were easy with him lol! The 2nd child is almost 14 so going through the teenage stuff now, but he's shaping up to be like his brother. No trouble at all just yet. They're both such relaxed easy going kids hahaha. But I do understand what you are saying Thanks for the link.. Reading now... Ang

Sometimes a parrot will choose you, and I think that may have happened to you Ang. Maybe the little QP was thinking the same thing as you: "I like this one-- I'd better mark her." And so he did.

Ang I've only had my little guy for a month...but I can definitely tell you that yes, it does happen a lot! I definitely understand your hesitation, and you asking yourself if you are able to handle it. I went through the same thing. I did literally months of research and made up my mind. I found a breeder and scheduled a day to make the drive to pick him up. A couple days before it was time to go get him, I nearly backed out second guessing my decision. Wondering if I would be able to give him everything he needed to be happy and healthy. But after having him for a month, I am SO glad I didn't back out. Now, let's wait for the terrible twos, and my thoughts on that might just change

hahahah Thanks Gary. Yes I was thinking the same thing!!! I'm guessing that happens a lot, them pooping all over you! Ang Yes it will happen many times if you get a bird of any kind unless/until you successfully potty train them. I have only had 1 bird go through the "terrible twos" (some didn't go though it and I got my quaker when he was 4 so he was past it). Luckily she was a sparrow and not a parrot with a large powerful beak. It lasted about a month but it was a month of her diving at you and screeching angrily when you picked her up or she'd bite you and not let go (you could let go of her and she'd literally be hanging from your finger with her beak). After though she was back to her normal loving self, I say only one went through it because Skye never came out of it, she went from loving and wanting attention 24/7 then went into the "terrible twos" and stayed that bird who'd be friendly and loving one minute to evil and chasing people across the house the next. You could get lucky though and have a bird that doesn't get too bad. Casey didn't change at all when it was his turn to go through it.

Oh so it's not just quakers that go through the terrible two's?? Do all birds (sorry for being so naive) go through a 'terrible two' stage of some kind??
