So, I've had Sonic 10 months now. He has started just in the last week or two to eat his pellets in a different way. If I'm home and his cage is open he will take two or three pellets drop them in his water, then he gets them out comes out of his cage gets on me then eats them. He will go back and do this over and over until he's full. Is this one of those the flock eats together deals? I would rather he not do that, but I'll live with it if it's not like an over bonding behavior. Anyone else's birds do this? What do you folks think? Should I stop it? On a bright note, he is now what I would call potty trained!!!! He hasn't had an accident in weeks now!!!! I'm thrilled!

I've never had a bird behave like that, but it sounds pretty touching to me. It doesn't strike me as anything to worry about. If he starts to regurgitate for you after he eats, then you'll want to intervene, but short of that, I wouldn't. He might just feel safer. Birds can be especially vulnerable while they're eating.

I agree with easttex. Oscar always wants to eat with me. He will bring peanuts over and ask for my hand to perch on so he can shred them. He does not want to share with me... but he loves to take my food. I don't mind him doing this because I can control the mess.

It does sound very harmless and cute! Bonnie doesn't do this. The only thing she DOES do is poop on anything pristine/clean - so congratulations on your progress in this area.

Lol bitey bird. The potty training has been a long process. I usually lay on my bed and work on my laptop when I'm home. It was getting old washing the sheets every day, so I did some research on potty training parrots. It has taken several months of patience and consistency but I don't have to wash sheets every day!!!! I still have to watch him if we aren't in view of his cage because he forgets sometimes.

Oh, I forgot...Bonnie DOES bring food over to me - she lands on my laptop screen with her tail obscuring my view, then proceeds to shred an almond/cashew or chew a sultana. Of course all the pieces land on my laptop keyboard and fall in amongst the keys. When she's had enough she wipes her beak on the edge and casually tosses the leftovers away with her left foot (her 'eating' foot). Cheeky little chicken.
