I went into the pet shop, looking for a Bee Bee parrot. The shop owner had one 8-month old in a cage with a two year old Quaker as cage mates. They were friendly and kept each other company. The shop owner reached into the cage to retrieve the little BeeBee for my purchase. As he was holding it and telling me about the bird's care, the Quaker started to squake! I thought the birds would be unhappy without each other; so, i bought both. I initially wanted the Bee Bee for a companion; as i had one when i was much younger, and i am now by myself. I need this bird to Bond to me. Ive never owned a Quaker before. My question is: will the BeeBee or quaker bond to me or because they have each other, they dont need a human now.

Welcome to the forum! That's a very interesting question. I have no experience with different species as cage mates, and the usual bonding question involves a single species. I would theorize that it depends on what sort of bond they have with each other. If they are just flock mates, you'll probably have fewer problems than if they see each other as mate mates. I think in your shoes I would put them in separate cages, but keep the cages close, if possible. That could help in your bonding process, but I would also be a little nervous about the Quaker becoming territorial. They are notorious for this, and if the two of them are not bonded as mates, that could eventually mean trouble for the smaller parrot. It could be that they will be fine forever, but I don't like to take chances. There may be someone here who does have related experience who will be able to help you more.

Welcome. You have a kind heart to keep your two new birds together. I have no information on Quakers bonding to other species besides humans when hand reared. I hope someone can help you with your questions.
